Pragmatically, the most obvious use of this book is to understand how job satisfaction can affect a person's productivity. The book cites numerous studies that survey satisfaction and attempt to correlate these with measures of productivity. In the book's title, citizenship refers not so much to nationality, but to being in a work environment.

From productivity, the book looks at how it affects job success. There are several criteria commonly used, including task performance and "citizenship behaviours". The latter is a catch-all for typically measuring how well someone fits into her professional environment, as evaluated by her peers and supervisors.

Quick, Instructive.......2002-04-18

Networking is a buzzword-and a technique-of the times. As the world shrinks, through improved communication and speed, the more people you know, the stronger you are. You have greater strength to get things accomplished when you "know someone" who can help you down the path. "Six degrees of separation" has become a mantra for some.

John Bennett, a Certified Management Consultant, has put together an easy-to-read-and use-handbook of networking. There's a technique on each page. Simple, direct, not pages of wasted words. Most of the content seems like common sense, though as Voltaire told us, "common sense is uncommon." There is no table of contents, no index, no appendices. Just page after page of things you ought to know, but might have forgotten. It's a good reminder for everyone involved in networking . . . and we all are.

On most pages, the author also provides us with a box entitled "It works." These sidebars are quotes from a wide range of people who, in short statement, validate the value of networking to them. There is no connection between the technique presented on each page and the quote printed on the same page. It's like reading two books at once, a bit disconcerting, but interesting as well. The quotes offer a glimpse into the thoughts of others and provide a list of some of John Bennett's networking contacts. Nice way to honor your friends, colleagues, and clients.

This book would be a good gift for that new graduate or for a protégé as you start a mentoring relationship.

If you depend on relationships to generate business for yourself or your company (and who doesn't?!) this book is for you. It includes examples of successful networking activities (including personal stories from professionals) as well as proven action items suitable for the novice or the experienced networker. Highly recommended.

I have used this book extensively in my travels throughout the South. In fact, I have planned some of my trips so that I can sample the delicious food found at the country cafes recommended by the author. My only complaint would be that the author has not come forth with a second book; I have some nominees for him!

As is typical of his work, Don O'Briant has filled his latest book with humor, insight, creativity and accurate information. He's a well-known Atlanta journalist and has a reporter's discerning eye. But he's also a philosopher and a warm and sympathetic observer of the human condition. Gratefully, his restaurant reviews aren't like other people's. You feel like you're really there and can experience for yourself the people, smells and sights he describes. The inclusion of comments by notable Southernors is an original and effective device. You can tell that he is a down-to-earth (but incredibly observant) person who genuinely likes the places he went and the people he met. And, best of all, he's a great judge of food. Zagat, take notice! I recommend the book highly.

Understanding Legal Forms to Jumpstart a Business is an excellent guide for businesses both new and existing. I read this book and it helped me understand, prepare and file all the forms needed to start my business. I would have spent a great deal of time researching for the right forms, and spent additional cash on legal fees, to get my successful design businesses off the ground. With the help of this handy guide, I was able to save the professional fees and invest those funds into the hard cost associated with my companies. This book helped me get my businesses started quickly and inexpensively. The book's format is clear and simple to use. A great book, that I highly reccommend.

The author takes complex legal concepts and distills them to understandable principles, providing a clear basis upon which a non-lawyer can make decisions as to how he/she wants to set up a business. The process is made even more accessible through Ms. Weeks' clear, unambiguous explanation of the forms required to set up a business and the correct way they must be completed. This is a lawyer's guide that non-lawyers can rely upon.

Now, starting a business, or growing an existing one is a daunting and complex task, ever-complicated by the legal jungle one must traverse along the way. This book takes a no-nonsense approach to understanding who you need to call, where to go for forms, what you may want to write in your contractual agreements or incorporation documents, and how to protect yourself and your best interests in the land of new business start-ups. There is a great deal of information packed into this book, and it is a handy primer for the novice entrepreneur. The author has done all the preliminary research for you, for every state, and for any type of business filing.

By unmasking the secrets and intricacies of the legal requirements for new businesses, partnerships, corporations, etc. the author (a lawyer) gives laypeople a rare opportunity to understand step-by-step all the legal hoops they need to jump through to get a business off the ground. This book is written for a wide audience with the assumption that the reader is starting from zero. No legalese or legal dictionary required. The writing style is refreshing, but ultimately there are three reasons why this book is a must-read. First, as a reference book, it is well worth the small investment. It will save you all the time it takes to dig all this information up yourself in the library or on the web. So reason number one is time-savings. Second, if you're just dreaming about becoming an entrepreneur, this book is step 2: visualization and research. The details help make the reality unfold. Third, say you're actually ready to start a business and you've got a lawyer, but you're still foggy about everything. This book is like having an English-Portuguese dictionary on a trip to Portugal or Brazil. It makes all the things around you make more sense. Or, like knowing a little bit about cars when talking with your mechanic. Just good business practice. Plus, the book is dirt cheap, and the price of ignorance can be hefty.

All in all, this book is a welcome reference for would-be small business owners or tomorrow's corporate newcomers. The author has done an excellent job of making the legal element of business ownership accessible to everyone. The only downside is that you can get most of this information from a good attorney, at whatever their going rate is, so this book is not for you if you have unlimited resources or lawyer friends who specialize in business law. For the rest of us, I'd highly recommend it.

After reading this book, I could literally start a business tomorrow. Of course, I'd still need to get customers and figure out what exactly I'm selling.
