I searched for hours trying to find a resource that would teach options pricing from a pure mathematical point of view. I read several "duds", but this one was a winner. The text focuses on the Black-Scholes theory in pure mathematical terms. This book is geared towards someone who has a solid math background (you are fluent with e^x, binomial trees and basic statistics). This also explained a lot of background concepts in options for the majority of us who don't do this for a living (put-call parity, differences between US and european options, implied volatility and hedging strategies). This book has opened my eyes to a lot of nuances in options pricing.

This book is challenging to read. To understand all the specifics, you have to read it slowly like you would a college textbook. Without studying every equation in detail, gaining a general "big picture" understanding of how and why the prices move gives you valuable insight to where a stock is headed. If you can evaluate the "theoretical price" of an option, and gain information explaining why the theoretical price differs substantially from the actual price (in some cases, the two are over 1000% apart), you can develop a more accurate risk-profile for that stock than the public, or profit from the mispricing of options.

This is one of the best books on quantitative finance and helps readers to develop an intuition of the subject, which is more important as this will help the reader to understand and apply finer points and prepares the base to build further

Dynamite Theory Book .......2006-02-19

This book is extremely well written and very useful to me in that it provided the theoretical basis for option pricing. It also pointed out the theoretical limitations of Black Scholes and went on to discuss some of the later theories to improve option pricing. I obatined an Excel spreadsheet from a guy (Hoadley) in Australia which does all the mathematical details in the book plus a lot more. I'd recommend anyone interested get the book, and if you want to play with the numbers and concepts more you can with the spreadsheet functions. The theory presented in the book is more than enough though for most (I'm an engineer and like to understand why things work the way they do.) This book was one of the few that I made extensive notes in while reading it and tabbed the pages. I'd reveiw more specifics but a friend is presently reading it.

Straightforward explanation of the commercial loan process.......1998-12-09

As a commercial lender myself, I find myself recommending this book both to prospective borrowers as well as to some branch managers who may be rusty on the Small Business Lending process.

This book gives easy to understand explanations and rationales behind some of the confusing things banks ask their borrowers to do. It gives simple examples and descriptions that help me interpret the process to my customers.

Even after many years of lending money to companies, I find myself reaching for it to remind me of little details I have forgotten. It is well-written and very useful.

I would suggest the author update to include credit scoring issues which are now common in the Small Business Banking arena.

Organized around a weekend, this guide schedules certain lessons for Saturday morning, others for Saturday night, and so on. Since it seems improbable that anyone will spend every minute of a weekend exploring Quicken, this organizational structure has little practical utility. Still, the authors--one of whom is a certified public accountant--present a complete documentation of Quicken Deluxe 98 in these pages, and the book is valuable for that reason.

They begin by explaining the oldest feature of Quicken--the checkbook. Quicken does a poor job of accounting for things such as options and warrants, shortcomings of the program that are certainly not the authors' faults. However, the reader would benefit from the inclusion of "work-around" ways to record more exotic transactions in terms Quicken can understand. Before wrapping up with an exposition of Quicken's planning tools, the authors explore reports, charts and graphs, and the tools Quicken provides for tax planning.

Quicken is generally intuitive, but it has some sticky parts. This book stands as a fine resource to help you through the obstacles.

The Author and Amazon's descriptions do not inform you up front that this is a WINTEL application book. In addition, the Author rambles in her explainations and the narative is cluttered with technicl asides that confuse the beginning user.

The Author would benefit from an exposure to "Information Mapping" Techniques in presenting her explaination of Quicken 98.

This is an excellent example of delibitating wordiness.

If you really want to learn to USE Quicken in your everday finances, this book is the vehicle. It starts at the ground floor and slowly builds to cover all of the program's elements. From the simple checkbook, through investments, loans, internet access, on-line banking and investments, its all covered. You can work at your own pace and master each section before going forward. It's structured with logical break points that give you enough, but not too much in between. Using your own data for setting up and running the program makes it much more meaningful and useful. Intuit should pack this book with their program.

Total lack of editing.......2007-05-10

This could be a good book. There is some good content, but it so overshadowed by the lack of editing, that you will kick yourself for buying it.

This is what I think the author did: He sat down over a weekend, talked into a tape recorder and sent the tape to someone else to transcribe it. He never read the transcription. He just sent it to a vanity press and had it published.

Here's a typical example of the horrific text you will struggle through:
"For instance, if you are serving a market place that is looking to lose weight, the weight loss market place that constitutes the majority of the United States and could constitute the majority of the world for that market, then your market place has the need of losing weight for various reasons. One reason could be social acceptance; another is to be more attractive, which actually is the need of using the formula we used before of always taking the need to the next step to discover the true need..."

The chapters are titled Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, etc. There is no index.

Sorry, this book REALLY needs an editor.

What I liked about the book is that the author shares his personal experience in starting and running his online businesses. Instead of reading about the online giants like Amazon you get to ready about how an average guy started and runs his online businesses. Why go through years of trial and error when you can take benefit from someone else's experience?

I normally do not bother to take the time to write reviews because other readers do such a good job reviewing a book but this one seems to have missed. I am not a writer but I do appreciate a well-written book and Lowy book was anything but. It was a low quality, self-published book where they forgot to edit it and stretched every sentence to reach the 135 pages. This book can be summed up in a pamphlet. Save your money buy something else such as eBay timesaving techniques. This book was painful to read. It is not for beginners, intermediate, or advanced sellers. I am a eBay powerseller and I can not think of anytime this book could of helped me compared to the other great books out there.

Works for eBay.......2004-04-14

While I primarily sell on eBay I found that Selling Online works just as well for eBay sales as it works for general online sales.
The reason is because the strategies that are suggested are aimed at converting casual browsers into excited customers who will want to buy your products or services.
If that casual visitor sees your products on eBay or on your own web site, you will need the same set of skills to turn her into a buying customer.

Despite its crucial role in the Ugandan economy, labour power has rarely been studied by social scientists. In particular, the real life experience of workers as they interact with both capital and the state has been ignored. This huge gap is redressed in this study by Ugandan authors at the Centre for Basic Research in Kampala. It provides a detailed analysis of rural Ugandan labour today. The violent imposition of colonial taxes in Uganda at the turn of the nineteenth century changed village life irrevocably by introducing a cash-based economy. Subsistence farming was superseded by the need to generate income. At the same time, the arrival of technology separated villagers into classes and redefined gender roles. Studies range from salt winners inside Katwe National Park, to the degradation and explicit oppression of dairy farmers in Kigezi and the life of fisherpeople near Lake Victoria, giving an in-depth description of the human experience of wage labour. Three village case studies complete the analysis.
