Book Description
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, that perception is reality, and that a single strength can overcome a world of obstacles. These three powerful ideas converge in the breakthrough work, Change the Way You See Everything
This brilliantly simple book on the philosophy known as Asset-Based Thinking, instills success-oriented habits in even the most die-hard cynic. Its transformational lessons--conveyed through unique photographic metaphors and inspiring stories from real people--reveal how the slightest shift in perception can lead to monumental results in both business and in life. ABT is not just positive thinking, but rather a systematic observation of "what works." Kathryn Cramer, an acclaimed corporate consultant, and Hank Wasiak, a creative icon of the advertising industry, have produced a work that looks and works like no other business or self-help book-because it IS like no other book. Change the Way You See Everything is a revolutionary approach to every aspect of life that bears not just reading, but re-reading, and sharing with people in your circle. You'll never look at the world the same way again.

Buy for everyone you know.......2007-03-13
This book is a quick and fun read. I made it a point to read one title a day, which turns out to be a two page spread. The concepts are driven home with incredible supporting photos and powerful text treatments.
highly motivating book for sure!.......2007-03-05
Dr. Cramer is rock star in the area of "the glass is half full" thinking! This book is a great read and re-read to cement good, positive, motivated, lean-forward behaviors. And I for one appreciate the reminder and the helpful tips. It's also a book that's well laid out so that I can refer back to key sections easily! Kudos to Kathy and Hank for summing up life's lessons so well!
Entertaining & creative book.......2006-08-23
This is an entertaining book with a creative approach to concepts in Positive Psychology. Its style and content is a reflection of the combined efforts of a psychologist (K Cramer)& a creative advertising executive (H Wasiak).
The presentation of concepts is clear, simple and straightforward. It breaks down into categories of: How you see yourself; How you see others; and How you see Situations. The main concept promoted is to use Asset Based thinking as oppossed to Deficit Based thinking (which parallels many concepts of positive psychology)
The chapters and concepts are enhanced with thought provoking visual pictures, interesting charts, some personal stories, and great graphics. This presentation makes it easy to read, and even useful if you want to use material for lectures or classes.
For a rigorous clinician or coach, the exercises they recommend throughout the book are not especially powerful or unique. In addition, they make very few references to psychological studies to support claims about the effectiveness of Asset Based Thinking.
Forget Perfection.......2006-07-18
This book truly brought positive and new insight into my life. As a person who often veers towards a path of perfection the wisdom of this book reminded me that trying to do everything flawlessly is not the key to success. Instead, taking the "magnify what's best and focus on what's next" approach has opened up a whole new world of possibilities and happiness for me. The simple but powerful messages, accompanied by the inviting photographs found inside the book will engage all readers and help them to make the most of their assets.

Heard Neil Flett Speak.......2002-04-02
I've heard Neil Flett speak on Giving Million Dollar Presentations (I have NOT read the book) but he was absolutely fantastic. Neil has insights on the most commonly made mistakes that drive potential customers crazy! and how to avoid them. He only spoke for 30 minutes and I know my presentation skills have improved tremendously.
Book Description
From the speakeasy era to the 1960s, Sherman Billingsleys Stork Club was North Americas most enchanting nightclub. But simmering beneath the romantic surface of the ultimate caf society rendezvous was a tale of mob and muscle. Billingsley, a graduate of Leavenworth, founded the club as a front for Jazz Age gangsters and fought running battles against racketeers for years. Stork Club, by New York Times journalist Ralph Blumenthal, tells the entire seductive and enthralling saga of the worlds most storied nightspot and its owner.

Everything you want to know about the Stork Club..........2007-08-02
The stork club was "pre-me" but I loved reading about it because many family members used to go there... You really get a sense of what it was like and the stories are fantastic... The manager runs the restaurant like a col. in the army... A very good book to read
Ah! The Good Old Days!!.......2002-02-22
"Stork Club" is a pleasant surprise. It is the remarkably well- researched story of a one-time bootlegger from Oklahoma, by way of Washington and Detroit, named Sherman Billingsley. The author had the obvious cooperation of Billingley's daughter. Mr. B ran Manhattan's Stork Club from the mid- 30s to the mid -60s. Located on East 53rd Street, it was arguably the world's most famous nightclub, when there were such things. "SC" deals relatively briefly with the glamorous café society clientele such as Ethel Merman, Humphrey Bogart or the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. It concentrates on the harder edges of Mr. Bs life; the bootlegging days in the Midwest, his (successful?) fight to free himself from the mobsters like Dutch Schultz and Owney Madden, needless run ins with Civil Rights activists and the ultimately ruinous struggles with local unions. Mr. B was always fighting something including internal theft, a fickle public and disloyal employees who left him to start their own nightclubs. He appears to have been his own worst enemy. "SC" ends on an unsurprisingly depressive note. This reviewer would definitely recommend "SC" to any native New Yorker of a "certain age" or those curious about an earlier, VASTLY more gracious, more livable and more desirable New York than the current yuppie playground it has become. ...Mr. B had the well-deserved reputation of being kind to young people and servicemen. My two visits to the Stork, just prior to its demise bore this out. They were nice to my date and me. ... This must have been a high-class place in its day, a "day" that is gone for good. "SC" is your chance to at least read about it and imagine.

A GOLDEN AGE RECAPTURED.......2002-01-20
This book brings to life the glorious decades of the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's, when night life in New York meant more than yuppie scum club hopping and dancing to grunge music in lofts. The wonderful Stork Club, and its colorful owner Sherman Billingsley, were an integral part of those decades. The book abounds in great anecdotes and captures what it must have been like to be admitted past the gold chain at the front entrance to the elegant interior of the Stork Club, where the likes of Walter Winchell, Jackie Gleason, Errol Flynn and Ethel Merman, to name a very few, held sway. How I wish I could go back to that era for just one night and spend it at the Stork Club!
The book is much more than the story of the Stork Club. It covers in considerable detail the remarkable life of Sherman Billingsley, who grew up on the frontier of Oklahoma and came to New York in the 1920's as a bootlegger, founding the Stork Club as a speakeasy in 1929. Billingsley was a real character that the reader cannot help liking and the chapters dealing with the demise of the Stork Club in 1965 and Billingsley's death a year later had an emotional impact on me; it was like losing old friends.
The book abounds in wonderful photos of the Stork Club and the people who worked there and partied there. An added bonus is a special section at the end of the book written bu Billingsley's daughter, Shermane, on how to throw your own "Stork Club party"! In addition to recipes for food and drink and other advice, she provides additional colorful anecdotes on her memories of the Stork Club.
Sherman Billingsley, where are you now that we really need you?
Bring the past into the present!.......2001-06-15
I have always been a big fan of history, historical events, places, etc. but I never really thought about the age of the nightclub.
This book brings the past to life. Telling the story of poor Sherman Billingsly who brings to life a dream, to own his own nightclub. Seeing him rise to almost superstar status and to see the dream slip away with the changing of the times.
When I bought this book I figured it would be a read it on and off type book....I read it cover to cover in one sitting. I lost almost an entire day, but it was well worth it.
Hearing the stories about the stork and it patrons....Ethel Merman, Walter Winchell, John F Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe. Picturing the gangster behind the scenes waiting for a cut of the auction. The people who ran the club and just learning about the legendary club.
This one is well worth it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

big disappointment.......2001-12-19
This book belongs on the "out of print" list. A promising title, but lousy content. Instead of providing useful materials on developing telephony applications in Visual Basic, the authors, in essence, used this book as promotional material for their own Visual Voice software component which works with Visual Basic 1.0, long outdated considering VB 6.0 is about to be replaced with VB.Net . The rest of the book is an overview of Visual Basic, telephony terminology, and even talks of Windows 3.1. This book is overdue for the recycling bins.
way out dated.......2001-11-22
Don't buy this book. It is way out dated.
good background.......2000-10-23
This book was an excellent introduction to visual basic telephony...If you are interested in a beginning book on Telephony and how a telephony application would work in a point and click environment, this book is a solid choice.
visual basic telephony.......2000-10-02
In general, it is well writen: easy to read. However, as I worried, it was a little bit outdated. And, there were not surficent explanation on codes for visual voice. I wouldn't recommend this book if someone wants to learn how to write a program using visual voice in visual basic environment.

Book Description
Business Communication: Building Critical Skills by Locker and Kaczmarek represents a unique approach to a hands-on course. Written by the same author of Business and Administrative Communication, this completely new approach is devised and created with the assistance of a community college colleague. The innovative modular structure allows instructors to focus on specific skills and provides greater flexibility for short courses and different teaching approaches. While grounded in solid business communication fundamentals, this four-color paperback takes a strong workplace activity orientation which helps students connect what they learn to what they do or will do on the job.
Customer Reviews:
I Like It.......2004-01-09
I found this book to be very effective. It's modular format made it easy to adapt to my classes, one on the Internet . . . no more taking page numbers from here and there. The examples were useful, with more on the Website. The students said it was good, too. I've used the old and the new versions. The new version has updated information and some new examples and assignments. I'm glad the "Polishing your Prose" assignments were kept. I assign these to students for self-study and see improvements in their grammar.
Great Book.......2003-01-15
Few business writing texts balance salient instruction with an easy-to-read writing style. Business Communication: Building Critical Skills does just that. None of the textbooks I've used scored as highly with the students for effectiveness and easy use as this book. As anyone who teaches writing knows, students frequently complain about the textbook regardless of how good it is. Usually those students are the ones that do poorly in the class. But this book satisfied just about everybody including me. The authors manage to cut all the unnecessary information books of this kind usually are crammed with and get to the point. The exercises are great and have real world application, and the many grammar refreshers helped improve my students' writing. It's especially good for non-native speakers of English. This book seems well designed for teachers and students, and I would recommend it to both groups. The book is also cheaper than many competing books, which makes it even more attractive for students on a tight budget, which is most students today.
Mistakes over Mistakes.......2002-12-06
Despite the fact that the book focuses on Business Communications, it still will not help students to achieve better communication skills (at least not with this issue). The book is full of logical and typological mistakes. Sorry but this will not work for a book that is trying to improve communication.
Well Done.......2002-04-15
One of the better business communication texts available. Students find it easier to read than the competitors'. I like the many supplements that come with it. I also like the module approach. I've taught many business communication classes and students almost always complain about the book. Not this one. I wouldn't recommend it if it didn't work. The cost is reasonable and the examples are good. One minor complaint: The web page for the book calls modules "chapters." Not a big deal compared to the many, many things that work in this book.
A Great Book!.......2001-04-07
I liked this book. It's easy to read and has lots of good examples. The best part is I can actually use what I learned.

5 years is too long.......1999-11-28
I double my money at least once every 6 months. If you are serious at all about making money in the stock market, then you're talking about selling options, not investing in the traditional way.
This book is good, that is if you want to double your money every 5 years. It is not powerful enough.
A simple investment plan that should beat most mutual funds........1997-11-08
Bill Staton has a very simple investment plan. Buy stock in companies that have a great long term record(he provides a list of over 400) and hold them as long as they continue to perform. Not very exciting or complex, but it should work great. With deep discount brokers not offering trades for as little as $8, I think he should spend more time pointing out the advantage of using them over using DRIP plans. I would think that his investment plan would be better than the way that over 90% of investors now invest. His book is very easy to read.
The lay investor's best chance to emulate Buffett........1997-06-27
Staton provides a clear and simple method of building a solid portfolio of stocks representing America's best companies. His advice to the reader is -- buy and accumulate periodically, a small number of stocks belonging to America's Finest Companies (and there are over 400 of them in his book) and to sell rarely. Which is exactky what super-investor Warren Buffett does.
Staton also explains what kind of stocks to choose if your account is taxable and what type of stocks would be suitable for a tax-sheltered account like an IRA. And if the reader doesn't ever want to pay a broker, Staton provides a list of America's Finest Companies that allow investors to invest directly with the companies.
The only thing that I missed seeing in his book was a list of companies that might make it to the list in subsequent years IF they maintained their progress. A lot of investors would be interested in such "stars on the horizon".
Insight to the world of investment through stocks.......1997-06-18
Mr. Staton provides SIMPLE evidence supporting his views on investment with "America's Finest Companies". Unlike most "how to" or "you too can"
type books, He provides a non-baffling, easy to read presentation - no mind boggling charts and reports. His work comes across as for the invester and not the get rich quick speculator. 203 pages of reading have never gone so fast and been so truely informative.

This is an exceptional book for marketing professionals who want to design a professional, informative Web site for existing and prospective customers. The author discusses the steps involved in making such a site successful--planning, content, design, involvement, production, follow-up, promotion, and maintenance--and emphasizes that these aren't linear steps but part of a cyclical process wherein you constantly evaluate the effectiveness of your company's site. You get advice on examining other Web sites, focusing on the proper message and information for your target market, overseeing design and administration efforts, and keeping your site up-to-date and improving on it when necessary. This nontechnical guide even teaches you HTML, tables, and frames, and discusses design basics such as appropriate usage of fonts and colors. Full-color screen shots of successful and not-so-successful Web sites help illuminate these points. Each chapter ends with a worksheet that you use to evaluate what you need to do to accomplish the particular step under discussion.
Book Description
With his seminal guide to Web site design, award-winning author Roger C. Parker lays out the eight steps to Web site success: planning, content, design, involvement, production, follow-up, promotion, and maintenance. In
Roger C. Parkers Guide to Web Content and Design, Parker argues that the Web is best suited as a marketing and communication medium rather than a playground for designers. According to Parker, graphic design should be utilized as a resource to more effectively deliver a Web sites message to a targeted audience.
Roger C. Parkers Guide to Web Content and Design touches on the topics of choosing a Web site address, developing quality content, engaging your visitors, promoting your Web site, upgrading existing Web sites, and customer service. Parkers book reveals the promise of the Web and demonstrates how you can maximize your commercial forays onto the Internet.
Customer Reviews:
Step by Step work plans.......2002-01-17
This book really help to work and frame the plans for our site.
Not for web designers.......2000-08-23
I was quite disappointed with this book. I expected something much more advanced and technical. This is a DIY guide for the small business owner that wants to create a Wisywyg website. It's not real helpful for designers. And I have to say that I find the authors comment on the cover "One billion? Two billion? Five billion? I'm still trying to figure out how many dollars have been wasted by Web site creators who lacked the information in this book" extremely arrogant and irritating.
A must-have for small business owners!.......1999-06-22
Two things make Roger Parker¹s Guide to Web Content and Design invaluable: its focus on marketing for small business owners/managers and its easy-to-read writing style. I haven¹t found another book on this subject that comes remotely close to Roger¹s in its accessibility, readability, and critically important content for anyone doing business in the 90s. This well-written, excellently organized book is a must-have for every small business owner who¹s thinking about establishing an online presence or who already has one. Among the topics Roger addresses: what are the characteristics of a good home page, how Web page design differs from print design, what makes a good Web site address, how to design a Web site, how to involve visitors, how to promote a Web site, how to keep a Web site up-to-date and how to improve it. Roger reminds us that a Web site will always be a work in progress and therefore in need of constant attention. Roger Parker¹s Guide to Web Content and Design also includes helpful checklists that allow readers to identify their market, analyze Web sites they visit, and review and improve their own Web site. Readers are encouraged to copy these worksheets and keep them in a notebook. Roger¹s book is not only helpful it¹s also an inspiration, especially to a technologically challenged person like me. Roger tells readers that they can produce a Web site that¹s as effective and impressive as any company with a huge advertising budget. Now that¹s something this small-business owner with limited resources loves to hear!
Good overview of Web design for non-designers.......1999-05-04
As a big fan of Roger Parker's work, I had high expectations for this book. As usual, Roger explained and illustrated some fundamental principles that make a Web site functional, effective and pleasing to look at. Lots and lots of useful examples.
However, the book needed proofreading, as it contains dozens of mistakes, especially some captions that don't match the illustrations.
Fabulous! A must-read!.......1999-02-22
Roger Parker has done it again, creating a brilliant overview of elegant design in an accessable fashion!

Book Description
GLOBAL GOLD Panning for Profits in Foreign Markets
In the quest for new buyers and new sales, mid-sized companies in every industry are hearing the siren song of the global marketplace. Too many of them instantly leap...and quickly drown.
Now there's a way to evaluate, safely and thoroughly, the pros and cons of going global. The new Global Gold is a practical, step-by-step guide for carefully and strategically planning an international expansion effort. It explains how to:
** determine if a product or service is really appropriate for foreign markets ** figure out which countries or regions offer the biggest profits -- and get inside information from local experts ** measure the expense of entering a market against the potential for significant and sustained sales RUTH STANAT (Fort Wayne, IN) was a senior strategic planning and marketing executive before founding SIS International Research, which specializes in helping firms build corporate intelligence networks. In the past few years, Ms. Stanat has traveled to more than 110 countries to help international firms develop their local business intelligence, market research, and world trade. She is the author of The Intelligent Corporation.
Customer Reviews:
A great tool.......2005-05-13
As a university student, I stumbled on this book by Stanat which I classify as both a reference on local markets (from local marketers' perspectives) and a tool to help penetrate such markets. The book briefly discusses the forces in each local economy which play important roles in taking a business global, i.e. the government, mass media, customs, and prejudices. Though the chapters are quite short because of the sheer number of countries covered, Global Gold provides the important background information necessary for any international business endeavor.
Blah, Blah.......2000-03-29
If you have an interest in global markets then you have already read the same in the other 500 books out on the market. This is just a repeat with the author adding in personal experiences that are not accurate. A little embellished.
