4 out of 5 stars Detailed knowledge volume.......2007-04-03

Rather than giving a bunch of formulas to use in Excel, this book actually tries to impart you some knowledge of real world.
While the knowledge maybe old hat for experienced stock analysts, it is NOT for new comers to the field.
And for the Excel script MBAs who try to reduce everything to an equation, sorry dudes.
This book attempts to make u first understand the purpose, goal, and results you would get in a analysis, and then goes about teaching you that analysis.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Phenomenal Book!.......2002-01-24

After reading this book, I feel confident that I can speak comfortably in front of any group. In addition, I have just created a public workshop for my "sales training" program and I can't wait to utilize some of the tips in the book.

Yesterday morning I had the good fortune of speaking in front of 10 prospects with a sales presentation and my preparation due to the exercises in the book was outstanding.

Having read numerous other public speaking books including the Walters' book, this book is far superior because it gives me some excellent methodolgy which I can use in my sales profession as well as for my desire to take my training course to the next level.

Your public speaking success will skyrocket if you read this book and utilize the exercises.

5 out of 5 stars Execllent guide for people uneasy about public speaking........2001-11-20

I found that the book provides wonderful tips for becoming more at ease when speaking in small or large groups. I have used the techniques and with some practice... I have developed more confidence and comfort when speaking in front of a group or at meetings.

The great thing about this book is that it is so well written and easy to follow. The tips (and speaking techniques) benefit the experienced speaker and those wanting to become more comfortable with public speaking.

        I highly recommend it.

        Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars For those starting to learn about the business.......2002-06-28

This book provides basic inside into owning a restaurant. It gives a description of the many parts a reastaurateur has to tackle. It does not go into massive detail about the business, is more like an introduction about it. I recommend this book to people who are interested in starting a restaurant or small café but are just starting to learn about it (like me). For those who have some experience in the restaurant sector this book can be more like quick review. I gave it three stars because even though the book provided good info it didn't when into depth about the subject as i would like to. But in general is a good book to start to explore your options. Using data from over 200 hotels, i Human Resources Management in the Hotel Industry /i demonstrates that hotels are just as likely to have experimented with new approaches to HRM as are comparable manufacturing establishments. In addition, the book demonstrates how the primary influences on managerial decision-making in the hotel industry are no different from he primary influences on decision-making elsewhere, challenging the argument that management theories developed within the mainstream are inapplicable within the hotel industry, because the industry is somehow 'different'. Finally, b Hoque /b suggest a strong relationship between HRM and organizational performance, especially where hotels emphasize the importance of service quality enhancement and where they introduce HRM as in integrated, mutually supporting package of practices.

This newly-revised title clearly explains the major changes that have recently been made to the nation's bankruptcy laws. Specific changes will prevent people from eliminating credit card debt and other unsecured loans by filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 7, and forcing them to file under Chapter 13, a court-supervised repayment plan. In addition, while not totally eliminating the homestead exemption, there will be a cap on the amount that can be sheltered in a bankruptcy filing.

This new edition explains in simple language: € What bankruptcy is € How bankruptcy works € How to analyze your finances € What property you can keep € How to deal with creditors

A new glossary, appendix with valuable web site information, state-by-state exemptions and easy-to-use, blank tear-out forms make this book the most current product available.

Learn both theory and practice of knowledge management

Sir Francis Bacon once wrote, "Knowledge is power." Knowledge Sharing and Quality Assurance in Hospitality and Tourism provides strategies to grab that power and the competitive edge in the tourism industry through knowledge management (KM) and quality assurance. Knowledge Sharing and Quality Assurance in Hospitality and Tourism is a unique foundational text that clearly explains the theory and practical management of knowledge in this lucrative, very competitive industry. Book Description

When knowledge is properly managed, it's in the hands of those who need it BEFORE they need it. This greatly improves the speed of business operations by eliminating time-consuming information searching!

This book will show you how to make any hospitality or tourism related business more efficient and competitive by using knowledge management concepts and techniques. It provides an essential introduction to the concept of knowledge management plus fascinating case studies, strategic advice, and structural recommendations for its implementation. You'll learn to use knowledge management to avoid the duplication of research, reducing the cost of product research and development and increasing the effectiveness of your overall operation. Helpful charts and figures make the information easy to access and understand.

From the editors: "Although tourism and hospitality, with their geographically dispersed units, can profit from enhanced knowledge management, only a small number of firms have implemented knowledge management techniques. A recent study shows that although managers in many hotels consider knowledge management and information transfer to be 'relevant concepts,' they report being confronted with too many—and unclear—knowledge management strategies, activities, and implementation techniques. As a result, they are not sufficiently familiar with knowledge management and reject implementing it. This book will increase understanding of these concepts and help to speed the implementation of knowledge management in the hospitality and tourism industries."

the knowledge supply chain matrix, which combines strategic and operative aspects of knowledge management—with a practical example drawn from the airline industry
new developments in software applications for cross-border destination management, with an example drawn from the new "AlpNet" project that demonstrates the importance of cooperation and of member-specific requirements

                        Book Description

Knowledge Horizons charts the feasible future for knowledge management. This practical and provocative resource presents the work of many of the leading voices in knowledge management and related disciplines, who explore the current trends and offer pragmatic and authoritative thinking on applied knowledge management from a variety of positions.

Knowledge management is the new frontier for businesses, organizations, and institutions of all kinds. For those that hope to conquer this new territory, establishing a better understanding of current and future knowledge management trends and adoption of the most effective practices is imperitive. There are numerous options for executives: intranets, extranets, groupware, and core competencies are continually being refined. New entitites and rules in terms of intellectual capital and the "Chief Knowledge Officer" are emerging. Knowledge Horizons addresses these issues by exploring current and future knowledge management trends, gauging the future value of knowledge management investments, and how they will drive new business initiatives, and integrates the experience and insights of managers and cutting-edge research from experts in the field.

                          Description:
In the recent past, most practitioners and researchers in hospitality have focused on the development of programs and practices for preventing employees leaving a job. The purpose of this paper is to examine an alternative focus, which is the possibility of sharing and retaining the knowledge which resides in employees' minds. The operational practices of this focus would not only add value for internal and external customers, but also benefit overall organizational effectiveness in today's knowledge-oriented era. Semi-structured interviews were administered in four International five-star hotels in Taiwan. This study aims to examine the extent to which the hotels implement knowledge management (KM) practices, the manner in which they are implemented and the impediments they face. The data clearly shows that KM practices, such as programs and cultures that support knowledge acquiring, sharing and storing, can benefit such hotels.

                            Book Description

The Economics of Knowledge Sharing claims that useful economic knowledge is the most important foundation for the development of a sufficiently strong process of innovation. Within the framework of new institutional economics, the book looks at the institutional conditions required for the interactive sharing and dissemination of knowledge in the development of economies. It outlines in four distinct parts the complex societal process of human interaction by which knowledge is effectively generated and used.

The book first considers knowledge sharing institutions, differentiating between types of interaction and types of actors. Secondly, it examines the economic role of knowledge and cognition, asking how and why human actors gather knowledge. It goes on to revisit historical questions of knowledge and embeds them within the contemporary debate, before finally reflecting on the significant relationship between technology and knowledge sharing in the digital age.

Opening up a new area of research encompassing the institutional framework of the innovation process, this pathbreaking volume will be of enormous interest to a wide-ranging audience including economists in the fields of theory, innovation research, new institutional economics, evolutionary economics, history of economic thought, and education policy. As knowledge sharing interactions are akin to other kinds of competition aside from economic, this book will also be warmly welcomed by social and political scientists specializing in a variety of related topics.
