5 out of 5 stars A wealth of knowledge & easy to read.......2006-05-05

I am so thankful to have found this book. The way the author distills down information that I would have otherwise had absolutely no knowledge about is helpful beyond words. It's also nice to pick up a 450 page resource and not be afraid to dive in and use it. Having little icons and images to guide you through the book was also helpful.
It is so packed full of information you might clall it an investors bible. And if seeing all the forms first hand wasn't enough, it also comes with a cd rom with everything you need to make money work for you.

I don't get motivated to write reviews very easily, but this book is definitely, as the proverb goes, worth its weight in gold!

5 out of 5 stars Invaluable Resource.......2006-04-09

This book is an invaluable resource for entrepreneurs dealing with the age old challenge of raising capital to form or grow a business enterprise. It is very clearly written and is filled with useful, practical and pertinent information and suggestions. The author does an excellent job of framing the issues and exhaustively reviewing the alternatives available to entrepreneurs. I would certainly recommend this book to those considering launching a business - it is sure to open their eyes to ideas and opportunities they had not envisioned.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars "Group Discussion" Works!.......2006-04-27

I was introduced to this book in a a Group Communication class. It really provides a lot of useful information in an easy-to-read format. The chapters are short and to-the-point, and the information within is well-organized and realistic.

Some of the best information I found was:
-Common group symptoms, ailments, and their cures
-Defined member roles and their significance and relation to one another
-The Standard Agenda process as a guideline for effective meetings and completion of tasks.

I definitely recommend this book!

Book Description

Over the past hundred years, tourism has evolved into the world's biggest business, and few countries today question the common wisdom that the road to economic development is paved with tourist dollars. Yet questions should be raised, Patricia Goldstone argues in this pathbreaking book on the social and political impacts of tourism. She examines for the first time the close connections between business and politics as government and industry leaders work together to reengineer political trouble spots into tourist destinations in places like Ireland, Turkey, and Cuba. She also probes the impact of tourism on diverse cultures.

In a keenly perceptive account of the history of tourism in the twentieth century, the book tells how and why tourism aligned itself with political power, how it became embedded within such nontourist institutions as the World Bank, and how since World War II it has become an instrument of international development policy. In detailed case studies that are also compelling travel narratives, Goldstone documents the effects of tourism on local people, including its tendency to lead governments toward greater social repression. She offers fascinating insights into the ironies of modern tourism—how, for example, it can insulate tourists from the very things they seek to encounter, and how, despite its preservational efforts, tourism can affect a culture in complex, sometimes troubling, ways.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Poor research, shoddily written.......2007-08-03

Not sure how this book ever came into print. Scholarship is on par with high school level, and the writing less than interesting. Her grasp of the world is such that I suspect Goldstone has seen the world mostly through the lobbies of great hotels.

1 out of 5 stars Big picture? Little picture? What's this book about?.......2007-01-03

This book is quirky (a word?). Despite sometimes interesting facts (or are they "facts?" I am not sure I can trust her, and she gives no sources). The author demonstrates no modesty in her presumed range of expertise applied to an immense range of topics and events.

I agree with most of what was said by the other two Amazon reviewers, and cannot recommend this book - except perhaps to conspiracy lovers who don't require thorough, well organized presentations.

2 out of 5 stars Journalism not quite at its worst.......2004-01-12

This is a book that tries to be serious, but misses the mark. Why a professor at Smith College would have it on his reading list might seem to be some sort of endorsement, but surely not.

The book is full of errors, and badly edited. Everything from (obviously) a false ratio of men to women in Cuba, a reference to Central America as a country (!) to Herodotus's descriptions of Alexander the Great's incursions into Persia a hundred years before Alexander was even born. And where does she get a Cuban economy of $2.5 billion in 1999, when it was somewhere around ten times that amount.

It's written in the sort of style one might encounter in a regional newspaper's week-end edition, hardly the stuff of serious study and research. Continuity is a little slipshod as one reads from page to page

And there is no index.

A fistful of errors means that one cannot trust the book.

Not recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Too much and too little.......2002-10-21

Goldstone's book has many good moments and points, and is at its best when describing what she has personally experienced while on the road. When she goes "off-road," however, problems begin: undocumented - most likely fake quotes - attributed to Fidel Castro, nonsensical statistics like a 7:1 ratio of men to women in Cuba (!) and a tendency to overcram the narrative with irrelevant diversions. The story of the Ludlow, Colorado, massacre is gripping in itself, but not necessary to tell a story of tourism in the modern world. In all, the book reads like a college undergrad term paper with miles of padding. Still it has its merits and does the basic job it set out to do, to trace the connection between international finance and tourist hot spots.

5 out of 5 stars Obey and Be Blessed.......2005-08-26

BUILDING WEALTH THROUGH SPIRITUAL HEALTH is a journey through spiritual guidance and counsel to explain the importance of placing your faith and money in God. This candid snapshot of reality is laden with bible verses, stressing the values of reading and understanding the principles associated with tithing and money management.

Backed by biblical principles, this book speaks honestly and forthright on what God really says about money and getting your financial house in order. Broken down from the beginning, everything is outlined, with specialized topics such as Spiritual Disobedience and the Results, to the prosperity you encounter when you are in line with the Word and being obedient to it. Providing insight on real life topics such as Investing, Debt Management, Retirement and Real Estate, these guidance modules are demonstrated and backed up with scripture.

Danny Freeman does an excellent job in breaking down a lot of questions that have gone through the minds of not just Christians, but everyone wanting to understand the principle of how God wants to bless you financially. I've never encountered a book that gives these principles to you plain and simple. It definitely helps clear up some misconceptions and false teachings that we all have encountered at some point in our lives, and I encourage everyone to read it while having their personal bible at hand. I highly recommend this book to anyone; the Word does not disappoint.

2 out of 5 stars Not so inspiring.......2005-07-13

This book had some cute project ideas, but not many that truly inspired me. Many of the projects just didn't tie together into themed rooms. To me, the rooms were not that creative nor ones that I would want to use. This book really wasn't what I was looking for for children's room ideas. If you are just looking to make a few projects (i.e. decorated lamp, storage box, or bulletin board) this book may be what you are looking for. However, if you want to totally redo your child's room another book may provide more inspiration.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST decorating book for kids' rooms.......2003-06-13

I've looked through several different books for decorating kids' rooms and if I could only keep one this would be it. This book shows you how to create a beautiful room for your children by just using paint...painting the walls, ceiling furniture, floor, rug, headboard, shelves, decorating accessories or whatever. I am not an artist or interior decorator but I felt like I could do every project described. Most decorating books just show you a finished room and a few comments about different unique characteristics of the room. This book gives detailed instructions for how to create the entire theme yourself. Some of the themes described are castle, safari adventure, carribbean, fairy tale, circus and many more. If you want to transform your child's room into a creative haven all on your own then you MUST have this book.

I ordered and returned this. My son is a high school senior and looking to get into MIT or another selective school. There is nothing in this book to help him do that. So if your child is past elementary school, there is nothing in this book that is unique. If your child is very young, and you are affluent parents, then the book might be of help to you.

"Your book is an insightful and relevant expose of what parents and kids should look for when weighing the possibilities of attending an Ivy League school. I have no doubt that this book will be a helpful aid for those who might not have believed such an educational opportunity existed for their child. It can also serve as an impetus in motivating parents to begin the process early in their child's educational career. You have done an apt job in tearing away the veil which has obscured admittance to many of our nation's best schools. I can only hope your book will have a wide readership among mainstream America."
