Very short & general.......2007-10-02

This is like a small handbook/manual to refer to after you've read a more in depth book on the subject. I wouldn't even call it a book, it's not very long at all.
It's not a bad read but if you have never read anything about "difficult people" before you'll find a LOT lacking. I think maybe it'll be good to refer to if you need reminders of the things you've learned.

A more comprehensive book on the subject which i have read and like a lot is called Coping with difficult people by Robert M. Bramson.

Should be called Dealing with Difficult Behaviours.......2007-09-12

I really enjoyed this book. The crux of it is that you are dealing with bad or difficult behaviour, not necessarily bad people. If you understand what drives the behaviour you can be more successful in dealing with it. It is also a good guide on what NOT to do. AND the book is not a weighty tome that drones on and on to prove a simple point ... it is nice and to the point. I was a IT consultant for 10 years working with many different global coporate companiess, and now run my own business employing 15 people. I can recognise each and every behaviour type. I have tries lots of these strategies for dealing with these behaviours (successful and unsuccessful) and a lot of this advice rings so very true.

the difficlties of self-knowledge.......2007-05-15

I found this book is quite helpful in identifying differing communication styles and in giving suggestions for how to deal with them. One of the major, salutary, insights is that each of us probably has a communication styles that irritate somebody, somewhere. Ouch! But recognizing that aspect of "the problem with OTHER people" gives us a better chance to improve matters. I liked the humor, too.

Don't be put off by the extreme sounding title.......2007-04-13

This is one of the best books about effective communication I have come across.

As a manager of a large teaching staff, and working for local government, I have found this book to be one of the best resources I own.

The book clearly breaks down difficult personality characteristics, identifies the motivation behind the behaviours, and gives clear strategies to deal with the situation. From the bulldozing boss, to the meek mouse, this book helps to bring out the best from the people you work with.

It's also effective with difficult friends and family. It is also very readable.

Dealing With People You Can't Stand........2007-03-15

Welcome to the first edition of the Rough Guide to San Francisco Restaurants. When it comes to food, San Francisco is spoiled. The vineyards of Northern California are enjoying a golden age, the Bay Area is bountiful in fish, and quality produce—much of it organic—is championed everywhere. Where dining out is concerned, San Francisco's old nickname of "The City that Knows How"—bestowed by a former president after an especially liquid banquet—is wholly deserved. There's something to the theory that this town is where all crazes begin, and in the food world that means anything from tandoori pizzas to duck quesadillas or a dash of sea salt in your grapefruit sorbet.

Never has there been a better time to eat at the frontier of new food. Nearly 5,000 restaurants jostle to serve an ethnically diverse and remarkably food-conscious population, and Asian and Latino cuisines are strongly represented, as well as East-West "fusion" food. The energy of this colorful community seemed at risk after the boom in the Bay Area's dotcom explosion gave way to bust, but many former tech-heads took the opportunity to open their own restaurants, and the result was hot competition and terrific value. Tourism faltered after September 11, 2001, but even this tragedy had a wake-up effect on the industry that could be seen (in a grim light) as salutary. Restaurants have added hours, introduced prix fixe menus, slashed prices—the $30 entree has faded away—and tuned up service.

The 350-plus San Francisco restaurants reviewed here are organized into sixteen sections reflecting the city's village-like neighborhoods, with three final chapters on notable restaurants in the East Bay (notably Oakland and Berkeley), Marin County (destination spots across the Golden Gate Bridge), and the Peninsula, to the south of the city. The reviews reflect the huge diversity of atmospheres, ethnic cuisines, and price ranges found in San Francisco—the possibilities range from prix fixe lunches in America's finest dining rooms to complete dinners for $5 at tiny hole-in-the-wall joints. We've included only places we liked and which offer good value, with one further rule: you have to be able to eat for under $50.

TIPPING

American diners tip 15 percent because the waiters and kitchen staff depend upon the tips for their livelihood and daily income. Indeed, it's considered rude not to tip in San Francisco unless you truly and sincerely hated your service. Good service deserves—and gets—more like 20 percent.

PRICES AND CREDIT CARDS

Every review in this book includes a spread of prices (eg $25-50). The first figure relates to what you could get away with—this is the minimum amount per person you are likely to spend on a meal here (assuming you are not a non-tipping, non-drinking skinflint). The second relates to what it would cost if you don't hold back. Wild diners with a taste for fine wines will leave our top estimates far behind, but the figures are there as a guide. For most people, the cost of a meal will lie somewhere within the spread.

For a more detailed picture, each review sets out the prices of various dishes. At some time in the guide's life these specific prices (and indeed the overall price spreads) will become out of date, but they were all accurate when the book left for the printer. And even in the giddy world of restaurants, when prices rise or prices fall, everyone tends to move together. If this book shows one restaurant as being twice as expensive as another, that situation is likely to remain.

Opening hours and days are given in every review, as are the credit cards accepted. Where reviews specify that restaurants accept "all major credit cards", that means at least AmEx, Diners, MasterCard and Visa, but if you're relying on one card it's always best to check when you book.

Classic and Valuable Read.......2007-03-25

Napoleon Hill is the recognized expert on all things success. In this book, Hill reveals how you can grow rich, and keep your mental act together at the same time. Typical of Hill's writing style, the book is easy to read, and features numerous examples from his real life experience. Specifically, this book covers, among many other things:

Success while being yourself.
Developing a healthy ego.
Finding friendship and love.
Getting the job you want.
Turning challenges into success.

This book focuses on achieving success through positive relationships and a healthy mental attitude. For more information on achieving financial success, you may want to read "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.

This is a wonderful work of heart in which the author combines true, upllifting philosophy with practical advice. I get inspiration from rereading it.

Grow Rich with Peach of Mind.......2005-09-25

This is the best book I have ever read. I wish that I would have read it when I was 15 years old, instead of 50. I would have made many different choices in my life. It teaches one how to think and use the mind. I have bought 7 copies and given them to my closest friends and family. Buy it. ;-)

I conquered one of my fears while reading it........2004-10-27

This book is so amazing. I rarely read a book more than once. I will reread this book and plan to read it again about every two months or so after working on my next fear. I did conquer one of my major fears in life while reading this book. I was on vacation and was in the process of flying back home. To say that I hated landings was an understatement. I use to grip the arm rests white knuckled, legs jammed forward, body pressed back in the seat terrified of the plane landing. While reading this book on the plane I was able to so completely over come my fear of landing that not only did I sit calmly in my seat, but as the pilot of the plane allowed the passengers to listen to all the communication with the ground tower, the tower controller made several mistakes that the pilot had to correct him on and then land the plane. All of this happened and I was completely at peace with what was going on. What I experienced was incredible.

This book is truly life altering. I look forward to finding Mr. Hill on the other side after this life and thanking him for this wonderful book.

More amazing secrets from Napolean Hill.......2004-06-12

Although Think & Grow Rich is the most famous book that Hill wrote, Grow Rich With Peace Of Mind is surely the most under-rated of all of Hill's books.

Grow Rich with Peace of Mind offers information not in Hill's other books and includes discoveries made by Hill after he wrote Think and Grow Rich. Grow Rich with Peace of Mind offers foolproof techniques for achieving power to earn a high income and to enjoy genuine inner peace at the same time.

Presents Napoleon Hill's wisdom and power in modern context........2001-12-18

I really liked these tapes. I usually find it hard to listen to motivational speakers for very long, but this particular combination worked well for me.

I listened to the cassettes in the car on a long-distance drive and I found the narrator's tone very conversational. The impression I had was as if I were watching a documentary with a narrator introducing difficult concepts and then presenting clips from a film reel of a powerful and persuasive, wise speaker to explain them.

Even without an actual screen, I was left with a distinct visual impression and a sense of almost having been there. That's what I look for in audio books.

Napoleon Hill Minus His Personal Energy.......2000-10-18

I read the review by the person before me but unfortunately did not heed the warning. The tape series includes two of Napoleon Hill's works in an abridged form but the narration does not project the vitality of the man's words very well. The narrator has a clear and pleasant voice but isn't able to convey the spirit and energy of Napoleon Hill. The second of the two books on this tape series, "The key to master riches", was the better of the two but do try to find tapes that have Napoleon Hill's actual voice.
One that I like is "Napoleon Hill's Grow Rich Now!" It will give you a better idea of the power of his ideas and his tremendous gift to mankind. The titles of all his books have to do with riches but as you read or listen to any of his work you'll see that he's really sharing ideas on how to attract abundance into your life how ever you may define that.

UNinspiring ..................2000-06-23

I woke with a start when Napoleon Hill's voice came on in this tape. Hill was a dynamic, exciting motivational speaker. After listening to Hill you believe you can achieve anything. Unfortunately, he speaks for only a few brief moments. The rest of the tape set is read by Rob Actis, who will gently and soothingly put you to sleep. Spend the extra money and get genuine Napoleon Hill tapes or else buy the book. This tape set is unconvincing.
