Book Description
Sometimes even the most thorough homework on fundamentals can't pinpoint the best time to buy a stock or take profits. In the short term, technical analysis can predict a stock's price behavior, providing valuable clues about the course a stock may take in the coming weeks and months. When time is of the essence in making logical, informed decisions about a stock's future, technical analysis is the tool.
This book gathers a dozen top authorities who reveal their techniques and strategies for successful trading. Each chapter guides the reader through a different expert's practical approach to predicting stock behavior, based on that expert's proven analytic methods. Every reader will find value in this straightforward, application-rich presentation of market dynamics forecasting, learning analytic techniques from some of the best minds in the industry.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent/Next to Worthless - Depends on your view.......2007-02-06
If you are the acedemic type, who loves to read technical theories, this book would probably be five stars. If you are looking for something to help you with practical, day to day stock or option trading, I'd advise you to spend your money on any number of other more useful books on investing. For example, this book might give you a way to not only consider the closing price of a stock, but to determine how many shares sold at a particular price during each hours of the day so you get a 'picture' of the direction it is heading. However, to do that would take all day for just a few stocks, and then to do it every day . . . .? That would be fine to consider the trade volumes at various prices when deciding to buy or sell a stock, but what would be needed is a computer program to do it hopefully in real time - but it gives no such programs.
So, if you like to trade, get a more useful book; if you like 'ivory towers' where you can ponder any of a number of stocks too slowly to be able to trade, then get this book. Don't get me wrong - it is good to know this stuff, if only for background information. But, without being able to get the information in real time, it won't help with practical day to day trading.
Very Average.......2006-09-15
This book is very average. Its maybe good for novice traders but a total waist for more experienced traders. This book should not be labeled as a technical analysis book because its just ain't. If you decide to buy it, buy it used because its not worth the full price.
Wow.......2002-12-14
Just the info on point and figure combined with moving averages is worth the cost of this book and that just one of the chapters.
Read it digest it use it
The value leader.......2002-12-04
I don't know where you can get an explanation of Point & Figure charting (I've seen it but never could understand this thing), John Murphy's succint, highly readable and technically important
Intermarket Analysis (which started a whole field) including the SECTOR rotation section missing from the longer work (and much more readable to boot)!!..., Linda Bradford Raschke's take on the history of TA with a roundup the Great Thinkers, Bernie Schaeffer & Larry Williams 's Treatise on Sentiment, Steve Nison on Candlesticks, Elliott Wave counting, Peter Steidelmayer's Market Analysis (an alphabet soup hand charting method that the Floridian is objecting to but many in the industry consider pivotal), the basic idea behind the mysterious Turtle Trading sysstem's Money Management, and the Options wizard Larry McMillian reviewing how Volatility and Options interact at such a price. Perhaps the only thing missing is the Random Walkers;-) This book is a real joy to own with allot in there to make you stop and re-think.
You should get this book if you want to survey the field and then drill down from there. Raschke's first at bat historial review with some of her own TA thrown in for good measure gets you going and the others make it hard to stop. I can honestly say outside of 1 typo/error, this book is flawlessly editted with lots of graphs. I was truly impressed & that's after reading allot on this field. Yes not everything is interesting
(I care less about Sentiment) but now I know more about it and can understand why Schaeffer and Williams think its important. But that's the beauty of this book, chockablock information about allot of topics in TA. A good starter, a better review.
There Are Better T/A Books.......2002-10-19
This book is OK but nothing special. He uses some tools that I have never seen in any TA software like Market Profile. Also lots of stuff on point & figure plus candlesticks which I do not use too much.
There are some new approaches but you may want to look at other books.

Book Description
Praise for The Book of Leadership Wisdom
"For anyone who seeks to understand the nature of effective leadership, in all its many dimensions, this volume will prove invaluable." -Bob Wright President and Chief Executive Officer, NBC
Pearls from The Book of Leadership Wisdom
"You must capture and keep the heart of the original and supremely able man before his brain can do its best." -Andrew Carnegie
"There's an old proverb that says: 'If you are planning for one year, plant rice. If you are planning for 10 years, plant trees. If you are planning for 100 years, plant people.' To that I would add . . . plant them, but don't forget to move them around every seven to ten years. New eyes give rise to new ideas and opportunities." -Michael Eisner
"You must realize that it is more than money that the men want, it is a sense of ownership." -William Cooper Procter
"You can manage inventory, you can manage things, but you must lead people if you want to tap their full potential." -Ross Perot
T. Coleman du Pont, Andrew Carnegie, J. Paul Getty, A. Montgomery Ward, Thomas J. Watson, Jr., Akio Morita, Jack Welch, David Packard, Ray Kroc, Bill Gates . . . they are among the most respected and influential business leaders of all time. Possessing a rare combination of business genius and true grit, these captains of industry have created unprecedented wealth for their companies and themselves, pioneered revolutionary new industries, and, in some cases, directly shaped the destinies of entire nations. Now, The Book of Leadership Wisdom affords you an unprecedented opportunity to hear, in their own words, what these immortals have had to say on the topic of leadership.
The Book of Leadership Wisdom brings together the essays and speeches of more than 50 business legends, past and present. Never before have the writings of such a large and diverse group of legendary business leaders been collected between the covers of a book. From leading change to dealing with adversity, creating vision to inspiring employees, the writings contained in this book span the whole range of essential leadership issues. For instance, you'll hear from Harold Geneen on the difference between leading and commanding, Daniel Guggenheim and William Cooper Procter on the advantages of a democratic workplace, Katherine Graham on the importance of credibility, Jack Welch and Ross Perot on leading in adversity, Ray Kroc on self-appraisal, and Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield on value-based leadership, to name just a few.
For easy reference, the 52 essays contained in The Book of Leadership Wisdom are organized into eight categories covering leadership qualities, dealing with adversity, visions of progress, labor relations, company culture, habits and idiosyncrasies, motivating employees, and leading change. Each essay is preceded by a brief introduction that places it in historical perspective and offers interesting and insightful information about its author's life and career. And throughout each essay, passages have been highlighted that call attention to each contributor's most pithy, profound, or quirky ideas.
Offering timeless wisdom from the most successful business leaders ever, The Book of Leadership Wisdom is must reading for managers at every level, from the junior executive cubicle to the presidential suite.
Customer Reviews:
This book doesn't try to tell l you what to do, but what had been done before.......2006-03-04
What does it take to be a successful business leader? This book, edited by Peter Krauss, is filled with classic writings by legendary business leaders. Also in this book, the reader will find, behind the inspirational phrases and classic pieces of advice, the stories and examples that will inspire, and turn advice into action. This book is not so much focused on telling one must be done, but focuses on showing what has and can be done.
For example, in the late 1800's, National Cash Register's John H. Patterson was in trouble. He was trying to sell a product that everyone resented: the cash register. Why pay for a machine that double-checks the clerk's competency and honesty? Nobody wanted these "thief-catchers" in their stores. No way.
Today, no store is without a cash register. This is a tribute to Patterson's great leadership skills. Patterson was a genius at convincing others to accept his new ideas and motivate a sales force to sell those ideas.
Another example is offered from ITT's Harold Geneen. Geneen argues that if a leader has to pull rank, the leader is not a leader. He believed that one must be able to inspire hard work and creativity without resorting to commands.
J. Paul Getty points out those true leaders know how to battle an inevitable crisis. He adds that leaders love to be challenged.
From Levi Strauss's Robert Haas, the reader learns that great leaders must have a deep set of core values and principles. These leaders must not only have them but effectively communicate these beliefs and principles. Best leaders can find ethical solutions to deep conflicts because of a strong belief and principle structure. Learn how Haas had to deal with child labor at a time when child labor was critical debate.
This book is full of examples on each page. The reader will see some of the challenges that have faced some of the best known firms, and the great leaders that navigated those treacherous waters, and survived to write about it.
51 Invaluable Perspectives.......2000-11-05
Peter Krass has edited the Wisdom Series series which includes this volume. Each anthologizes brief essays by different "icons of business." A brief bio of each author precedes her or his essay. In the Introduction, Krass asserts that "Among these various characters, in fact, the general consensus is that leaders are made, not born. The mythology of some mystical ability that surrounds these leaders is just that -- myth. As to the question: What makes a leader? The answer is here" in the 51 essays which he organizes within the following framework:
Part I: The Necessary Qualities
Part II: Dealing with Adversity
Part III: Visions of Progress
Part IV: Evolving Perspectives on Labor
Part V: Company Culture
Part VI: Habits and Idosyncracies
Part VII: Motivators and Mentors
Part VIII: Leading Revolution
[NOTE: Gary Hamel has written a truly brilliant book entitled Leading the Revolution. Compare and contrast his ideas with those expressed by Bossidy, Galvin, Vernon, Watson, Jr., Eisner, Wachner, Marriott, Jr., and Henry Ford in Part VIII.]
Of the 51 essays, the ones I found most valuable include all of those in Part VIII; also, others earlier in the volume such as "The Real Essence of Business" (Roberto C. Goizueta), "Roving Leadership" (Max DePree), "A View from Olympus" (Bill Gates), "American and Japanese Styles" (Akio Morita), "In the Public Eye" (Susan L. Kurtzig), and "Are You a Job-Holder or a Results-Getter?" (T. Coleman du Pont. A wide range of individuals discuss an even wider range of business issues. My suggestion is to select a topic or two of greatest interest and dive in. Because business circumstances can so often change so rapidly and (sometimes) unexpectedly, what you learn from what you read today may well help you to prepare more effectively for an uncertain future in which a new peril or opportunity emerges. Moreover, my guess is that there will be several other essays in this book to help you then, also.
I have also reviewed most of the other volumes in this series and recommend each of them highly.
An Indispensible Resource for the Perpetual Learner.......2000-03-26
This should be on every leader's or "wanna-be" leader's desk. Written by some of our past century's most effective leaders and edited to provide "side-bars" for the most important points in each of their articles, this book provides a much-needed tool. I have used it to draw on for speeches, research papers, and debate points. I first checked it out from the library to see if the content was worth buying - and I immediately ordered it! This definitely provides food for thought and inspiration. It includes not only the actual articles written by the leaders, but also a one-page profile/background on each.

Holding Productive and Effective Meetings.......2006-12-06
In "How to Make Meetings Work, Michael Doyle wrote a very useful and comprehensive book on guiding people on how to plan, organize and run effective and productive meetings. The book is well written in an easy to follow and understand style. It helped me to discard the notion that meetings are a waste of time and money and learnt how they can be very useful for an organization.
Among the important tips that the author highlighted are the importance of having a clear agenda distributed in advance of the meeting, having a clear purpose of the meeting, clarity on the type of meeting being held (e.g. whether it is a planning meeting, for decision making, feedback etc), adequate preparation by all participants, participation in discussions by all those present at a meeting, importance of starting and ending on time, the need to stick to the agenda, summarizing action items and resolving conflicts that may arise. The book also provides insights into meeting leadership skills.
This is one of the reference books that I use when facilitating on holding effective and productive meetings.
The book is essential reading for all people who have to organize, attend or chair meetings. Don't be put off by the date of publication (originally published in 1976) as the lessons the book teaches are timeless.
Great condition.......2006-11-06
this book was sent to me in a timely manner and was in "brand-new" condition like promised
A Comprehensive Book on Meetings!.......2003-03-03
Although at first glance I was skeptical, this book provided great insight into running a meeting that participants will actually enjoy and get something out of. It was not just a repeat of the things I already knew. After reading this book and implementing some of the ideas, people noticed the improvements from clear agendas which stated the purpose, to the approach used during the meeting to make sure we were all aligned and in agreement on what we were to achieve. I highly recommend this book.
why don't they teach this in business school?.......2001-01-25
of all the things that we learn in school, how to more effectively manage a meeting is not one of them, but should be. i wish i had read this many years ago. everyone who joins our team receives a copy in their first week.
the handbook of successful meetings.......1999-05-19
Doyle/Strauss have written the classic in meeting design, facilitation and management. It is easy to read and use; the standard guidbook that everyone uses.

Customer Reviews:
Buy this book and help stop the pain of bad meetings!.......2004-09-09
It is amazing what the real cost of meetings are. I'm not just talking about the aggregate cost to the business of the attendees salaries. What about the opportunity cost of the inability of a group to form a decision, let alone a good one?
It is within this context that John Tropman describes how to effectively and efficiently manage meetings. Mind you, this is not a book devoted to anecdotes and examples of bad meetings. No, this little gem delivers step-by-step instructions for creating a setting in which successful decisions are made. For example, most people will acknowledge the necessity of having an agenda, but have you thought about how topics should be structured within the agenda to enable quality decisions? When isn't the democratic ideal of one person, one vote a good approach to settle an issue? I was able to immediately use many of the items outlined in this book to improve meetings that I chair.
On the negative side, Part V, which is new with the second edition, seemed tacked on and out of place with the rest of the book. A minor point perhaps, but the last few pages were somewhat of a let down when compared to the first part. However, don't let that stop you from buying this book and ending the scourge of bad meetings
Insightful and Useful.......2001-06-24
I found useful information on every page of this book. Modern business is round after round of meetings. There are too many meetings and far too few that are really useful. Dr. Tropman helps us focus on when and why and HOW to have meetings. He also gives us tools to decide what goes into the meeting and what to leave out.
Having wasted too many days of my life in these modern torture cells, this book came as a breath of fresh are. It is not only useful, it is a delight to read and implement.
Book Description
Are you attending more meetings and getting less done?
Even with our busy schedules, meetings can be a productive use of time when we follow some simple guidelines. - Determining “who” gets to make “what” decisions
- Establishing norms and procedures for efficient use of time
