A great book that can be a help to all.......2007-09-04
Although I knew most of the information in this book and I have been actively involved in my family's finances, I still enjoyed this book very much. My favorite section was "Spending Your Money Wisely". I have always been a shopper and this helped me to understand why I go crazy when I'm in a bad mood. The presentation is easy to understand and each section is short so it is great for people who don't have time to sit around reading for hours at a time.
It's not where you are, it's how to get where you want to be.......2007-07-12
I was given the book by a friend, and started reading it just because I like reading. As I read, it was a good eye opener for great aspirations. It is not so much about where you are, but if you want to go far, you have to learn to manage what you have currently. It coaches on how to manage your money currently, work at getting better, and hopefully, some day be rich moneywise. There is an activity that analyzes how well you are on your way to getting rich, and I highly agree with that. There are areas that I do not agree with (Money has to be among the top 3 priorities in life) among others, but overall, great book. Her approach is very applicable in life too.
I would recommend it to "the nice girls" out there. Those who find it hard to say 'No" and especially to friends, those who think they have to match up a gift,... among others. I have recommended it to some of my friends, and bought it for some.
Written for the business woman.......2007-05-15
I think the value of this book to describe the mistakes that Lois has seen women make in the context of a business organization. Women who are not in that world may find it less relevant as the reviews have shown. I found it useful just as a description of her own observations..and I do think that it is true that many high-earning women do little or nothing to understand their own finances and just want not to bother with it. I also think it is a good idea to try to look at the big picture when choosing a career..but I also remember being young and in my 20's with my advisor trying to persuade me to go to medical school and I of course refusing all the advice of anyone over 30.
Looking for concrete money advice? Look elsewhere..........2007-01-11
If you need help in how you think about and perceive money, then sure, this may be the book for you. But if you're a young, up-and-comer or someone looking to correct past mistakes with money--this book borders on worthless.
A better investment is in Suze Orman's book, "Young, Fabulous, and Broke" which comes with access to online features which are really useful.
Great tips and a lot to learn........2006-11-06
I really enjoyed this book. It is greatly motivational and I have already implemented a number of steps to ensure I am financially secure. Recommended to all women and men.

Book Description
How can company leaders and employees negotiate their different religious and spiritual commitments in the workplace? This analysis proposes constructive solutions based on a concept of respectful pluralism which allows for the expression of individual beliefs and practices. At a time of international debate over religious conflict and tolerance, workforces in various parts of the world are more diverse than ever before. Religion and spirituality are often strongly linked to employees' identities. From the perspective of the employer, however, they can be distracting or divisive influences.
Customer Reviews:
Academic to the core.......2007-06-02
A quote from page 113: "That some scholars have encouraged companies to become more explicitly religious or spiritual-whether via de facto Christian establishment or via a generic spirituality-has created significant controversy and criticism."
Significant controversy and criticism?! When? Where? Which scholars? What companies?
The above quote tells it all: "That some scholars...." This book is a scholarly work that answers questions that nobody is asking; certainly no one in the marketplace. This is typical of academia: out of touch and irrelevant.
Hicks does not understand the kingdom mandate of the scriptures. Tolerant pluralism is the modus operandi of the post modern mind, but it is based on humanism, not the Bible.
If you want to be put to sleep by some very nebulous academic reading, this is the book for you. My advice? Save your money and buy some Ambien instead.
If you want to impact the world for the kingdom, read Kingdom Principles: Preparing for Kingdom Experience and Expansion (Understanding the Kingdom) by Myles Munroe (Hardcover - Sep 1, 2006). Hicks should do the same.
simplistic drivel.......2005-07-01
I found this book simplistic and trivial. The concept of "respectful pluralism" doesn't hold up under rigorous analysis. Sometimes the middle ground is a fine place to be, but only if you can present a coherent argument about why. Unfortunately, Hicks does not do that. The book is also terribly written--simple where it should be complicted, complicated and obtuse where it needed to be. Really there must be better books on the subject out there . . .
Unravelling the snarls of workplace relgious diversity.......2004-04-24
The author gives a thoughtful review of how leadership can cope with diverse expressions of people's religions as inevitably found in work environments. Rather than seeing such diversity as divisive, or flattened out by a superficial "spirituality," Hicks encourages appreciation of what it means if a Muslim woman wears a hijab, or a Sikh requires a turban, an evangelical wants to put a "Jesus Saves" sign inside his locker, or an Adventists needs Saturdays off. The author believes a respectful pluralism is the best means of management, one carefully cultivated to allow individual appreciation without signs of coercion or disrespect.

Excellent Resource for Job Hunters!.......2002-01-08
Job hunters nowadays must use the internet in their job search but it can be "needle in a haystack" time if you don't have good reliable navigational tools. Crispin & Mehler have provided a great roadmap in their book Career X Roads. When I was searching last year, I used their book constantly. It's a great help for career coaches too who are helping others to find the right web sources to further their job search.
Careerxroads 2001.......2001-03-14
This is the job hunters bible. For those looking for a new job, this book has it all. Everything you need to find your next job. If you are an employer or recruiter the listings and reviews of hundreds of job sites will help you target your search to find the best candidates.
This is a reference I keep on my desk at all times. I have used it in my job and have used it to find new jobs. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to stay on top of the rapidly changing job market.
Job Seekers and Recruiters Web Bible.......2001-03-12
The latest version of CareerXroads continues to be the definitive source for job seekers and recruiters using the Internet. This outstanding reference enables the reader to determine, quickly without wasting valuable time, which are the best web sites to review for job opportunities and the resumes of qualified candidates. In addition to the directory portion of the book, there are many helpful articles on career management for both the job seeker and the recruiter. Whether you are looking for a new opportunity or searching for the best candidate to fill an open position, don't go on the Web without CareerXroads!
Another Winner.......2001-03-08
Even better than last year's edition.
A thorough reference for anyone interested in advancing their career or anyone in the career management business. Crispin and Mehler review over 500 job, resume and career management sites on the web. In addition, they provide some excellent articles on the subject of career management.
The book is a "must" for anyone in the job market, as well as all Human Resource Professionals.
A Bible for Job Searchers & Recruiters.......2001-03-07
Would you go to the supermarket without a shopping list? Could you board a commercial airplane flight without a ticket? You wouldn't have the gall to attend a wedding without offering a gift, would you? The answer to these questions is a resounding "No, of course not!" Likewise, at least to my mind and experience as a professional recruiter and staffing manager (and sometimes job seeker), it would be folly to engage in a job search or candidate search without first consulting Cripin & Mehler's "CareerXroads". Within its 435 pages, the authors successfully manage to review more than 1500 internet sites that focus on the ever-widening and complex world of jobs, resumes and career management. The authors' research and insights are presented clearly, in relevant and concise language that every reader should find invaluable. The payoff in saved time, effort and increased efficiency is priceless. Every passive or active job seeker and every hiring manager, recruiter or staffing professional should clear space for "CareerXroads" on their bookshelves and refer to it, daily. Read well and prosper.

Customer Reviews:
Mostly motivational.......2007-09-23
I never heard of Langemeier until a few weeks ago when my wife saw her on a panel of mostly investment people on CNBC. The other 4 panelists focused on living below your means (being frugal) and then being able to save and invest in stocks, stock mutual funds, or real estate. Langemeier answered an audience question and basically said, "forget about the negative aspects of being frugal and not spending money, instead start your own business and make enough money so that you can spend money".
Out of curiosity, I picked up her book. I plan on starting my own business when I retire from my first job in a few years, so reading a book about starting businesses would not be a total waste.
Langemeier's approach seems to be to recommend that people start up a business very quickly in an area they know something about.......to get their feet wet.....and then learn more about running the business as it matures.
I can't really quarrel with her recommendations. She does discuss an issue I was already aware of.....do you want a business in which you must work at every day.......or do you want a business that does not require your 24x7 attention.....meaning you can expand the business easily.
My only observation is that Langemeier focuses on sales dollars......with very little focus on profitability. We all know the saying that nothing happens until the cash register rings....but why pick a business with low profitability versus higher profitability potential? Maybe her approach is designed to motivate you to get into a business first...and as long as you don't lose money......you will quickly learn about the profitability measurement......so your next businesses have more profit potential.
There is nothing new about her approaches. The principal value of her book would be to help motivate people to start their own businesses.

Building Your Own Cash Generator.......2007-08-05
Author Loral Langemeier is a woman who makes her living talking about building wealth through independent enterprise and she has an entire series of books dedicated to the "Cash Machine" concept. What Langemeier is referring to when she talks about cash machines is a business concept that involves complete and total involvement in an enterprise with lofty goals to grow and expand in a very short period of time. Langemeier stresses that a business can grow very quickly and she rejects the notion that a small business will always be small. She feels that business owners underestimate their abilities. They should set their goals very high and overachieve in sales and profits.
I have read many books like this and one thing that is a certain turn- off is a book that promises large sums of money very quickly and with very little work. These "get rich quick" types of books are common and they all make lofty promises and "guarantees" of great, limitless wealth. This book does talk about getting wealthy, but it is far more realistic in its approach. Langemeier doesn't guarantee great riches and she doesn't lead the reader to believe success will take place overnight. On the contrary, she talks about the demands of owning a small business; the commitment; the necessity of an exit strategy; and the gradual build- up to success. This is one of the many positive aspects of this book. It shows how financial independence can be reached, but it never claims the road to success will be smooth and completely free from bumps, roadblocks, and detours.
I like the multi- step approach of this book and the fact that it covers so many different parts of the process. The first few chapters talk about the start- up period and they cover everything from the decision to start clean vs. the decision to buy an existing company to the initial phase of brainstorming for ideas and identifying existing skills. Like Langemeier correctly points out, everyone has some specific skill set that can be converted into a full- fledged cash machine. For some, the skill might be something physical, like landscaping. For others, it might be something that requires more thinking, like private consulting. Whatever the skill, most everyone has several of them and it is only a matter of deciding on which skill(s) are best to use when building a cash machine.
Overall, The Millionaire's Guide to Creating a Cash Machine for Life is a very good book about starting a new business and developing it to its fullest. It isn't an exceptionally long book, so don't buy it with the expectation that you will find everything you need to know and an answer to every question as it relates to a small business. This isn't an exhaustive book and it only covers the most essential steps to build a business. But what it does cover, it covers quite well and it doesn't give the budding entrepreneur a false sense of hope. It's a very good book and one I recommend to anyone who is serious about starting and growing a business of their own.
Did you REALLY think becoming wealthy would be effortless after reading this book? HA!.......2007-06-24
If you are looking for a simple way to get rich with little effort, this is NOT the book for you!
However, if you're willing to put in the necessary work, take acceptable risks and get team on your side, this IS the book for you!
That was the theme I got from this book. I just finished reading Cash Machine for Life and I loved it. Loral doesn't give you a "flavor of the month" business you should invest in where you just sit back and let the money roll in. (That's a fantasy, not a dream and yes there IS a difference between the two!) She's a coach in the truest sense in that she'll help guide you to where you want to go but won't run the race on your behalf. That's YOUR responsiblity. (Right on, Loral!) I particulary liked her ideas on Sales, Marketing, and Operations. Nothing really new but her "go over it, under it, around it or right through it" approach to obstacles was refreshing. The buck stops here.
I first heard about Loral from The Secret DVD (awesome movie) and her appearance in it made me think that she could be the real deal. So I purchase her books and it seems that the underlying theme of this book (and all of her works) is, go for your dreams, and just because obstacles may stand in your way is no excuse to stop and here are some ways that can help you out along the way. Buy this book ONLY if you're committed to acheiving your dreams and goals and willing to get some help. Otherwise, go buy one of those "play it safe by becoming a millionaire by saving money for 30+ years and pay off debt" books because Loral can't help you in that area.
By the way, for those who are wondering whether this review is "fake" to promote this book as some negative reviewers have implied about other positive reviews, as I mentioned earlier, I just finishing reading the book so I have YET to benefit from it, however, I'm going to practice what I preach as I have already signed up for one of Loral coaching programs because after all, I will need some assistance (team, as Loral puts it)
Thanks Loral for showing me it's OK to dream again!
Really, I HAVE to start a business?.......2007-06-19
I'm not an entrepreneur. This book was not written for me. Sure, I understand that starting your own business is the fastest way to wealth - it's also a great way to add a LOT of stress to life. Laural didn't want a 9 to 5... so she got a 6 (am) to 9 (pm), which is what a sole-proprietorship is.
Businesses involve risk, like any investment, except that a business can absorb cash (and pull you into debt) unlike anything else. Moreover, unlike securities and notes investments, a business absorbs your time; if you lose your entire stock & bond investments, you still have a job (hopefully). If you lose your business, you're out of your investments AND out of a job.
My biggest beef with books like these is that not everyone has what it takes to be an entreprenuer, not all businesses are successful (no matter how much heart you put into them), and many readers who think they're entrepreneurs get sucked into some tschochky internet sales pyramid scheme.
Simple but actionable ideas.......2007-06-19
If you are expecting some magical insight to building a Cash Machine For Life, you will be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a simple, straight-forward overview of the process of creating a cash machine for life, this book should prove helpful.
The book is simple, fairly well written and easy to understand. It is not an in-depth how to book. But for anyone owing are thinking of starting a small business, it has some very good information.
None of the lessons are new. But they are all valuable and since it seems that small business owners have a bad habit of failing to follow the basic advice presented here, it is well worth the time to at least revisit these lessons.
The very first and most important lesson is the difference between working in your business and working on your business. This was the major theme of Michael Gerber's E-Myth books. But it is a lesson that still needs to be told. To be successful in building a cash machine for life, you must work to build a business, not a place where you have a job. This of course involves changing the mindset of most people who go into business for themselves.
The second lesson is to go into a business that relies on your own skill set. Again, this lesson is fairly old - Elegies an ancient philosopher said, "Let each man pass his days in that wherein his skill is greatest."
If you are going to build a business that is not totally dependent on you and your time, you will need a team. And the make-up of the team can and will change as the business goes through the different growth cycles. The book spends a great deal of time discussing the concept of building a team.
Langemeier also talks about the need to model your business after some other business. Again, this idea is fairly old. Terence, another ancient philosopher said, "Draw from others the lessons that may profit yourself." Old advice but still very revelant today. Unfortunately far too many people starting their own business fail to follow it.
She also devotes a lot of attention to developing a revenue model. A lot of people start their business with very vague goals and then wonder why they never achieve them. Loral advises that you need to have some very specific revenue targets and dates for hitting those targets. Action is one of the keys to success in any business. Take the action to generate the revenue and then adjust and correct as you go. If you wait til everything if perfect, you will wait forever.
There is one excellent bit of advice if you are starting a business with a partner. "...design your divorce while you're still in love." Far too many people enter into business relationships thinking everything will always be roses. "Divorce" in business can be as bitter as in marriage.
The examples in the book are extremely simplistic. However that does not lessen the value of the principles. My recommendation would be to use this as a starter guide and as you master the concepts and principles, find more complex and deeper material. But for the majority of people who own or plan to start a small business, this would be an excellent starter guide.

There are facts here, and some simple mathematics that give everyone the option of reaching that elusive goal. This is a book for everyone, whether you have already made your million or not. If you have the million, there are helpful suggestions here about how to keep it; if you do not have your million yet, this book will help you reach that goal.

The Real McCoy.......2000-12-05
If you apply William Atwoods principles, all that is left for you to do is "write the check." He lays everything out so simply that everyone at any age can understand the principles of investing for a real millionaire future. The best part of the book is the real life stories of people who are just ordinary, common wage earners, and how they put into place the way to financial freedom. The only way you can loose is if you don't really want to be a millionaire!
