For players in securitization who need to know more about structured finance including new securitized markets, this book is a great resource!

Deceptive and outdated.......2004-08-20

The title of Davidson's work certainly doesn't lack in aspiration, however, it proves the point that appearances are deceptive! It's disappointing in comprehensive coverage, bar maybe it's narrow scope on MBS. Worse though, statistics and contents are largely outdated. Even though I found a few rare pages worthy of reading, I still can't recommend this book to anyone. There are many superior alternatives in the market.

Terrible for quant.......2004-07-18

This book is terrible for the quant who wants to learn some technical stuff about MBS and ABS (for example, prepayment model or default model ....). I know the authors are doing business to sell their prepayment model. But I don't think that's the good reason that this book contains nothing more than MBS/ABS overview. If you want market/product overview, maybe this book is the answer.

Compendium.......2004-04-11

This is yet another compendium of contributed works. While this book isn't awful enough for one star, it isn't good enough for three. I woudl have felt more neutral if it said anything new or anything that you can't get from the fixed income research group of an investment bank or trading house for free, such as one right here in Greenwich.

Mortgage Backed Securities.......2004-03-04

This wasn't a particularly good overview of the securitization market. It focusses on cash U.S. mortgage backed securities.

Its all in simplicity.......2001-05-24

'Write the way you talk' is the main idea behind this book. Bailey identifies the common problems in written english:People just don't write the way they speak. The book is all about writing and speaking in plain english. You don't need *impressive* words all the time to be effective.

The book is divided into two parts: Writing clearly and easily and Speaking clearly and easily.

The first part starts off with comparison between spoken and written english (In speech if you use the word 'help', you tend to use 'assist' in writing.)

Then the writer moves on to common pitfalls in written style such as excessive use of passive voice and lack of punctuation.

Later chapters are about organization and the layout of written work and that includes selection of typefaces, use of heading, bullets, graphics etc.

In lot of places, the writer disagrees with the common myths of writing, for example: * Never begin a sentence with 'and' or 'but'. * Never end a sentence with a preposition * Never use first and second person pronouns

Now you can begin a sentence with 'and' and 'but' and still can be professional speaker/writer.

The second part is on speaking that covers: selection and design of visual aids, organization of presentation, speech style, rehearsing, setting up the room and handling the audience.

In all the chapters, for clarity purpose, a specific point is explained using examples and illustrations.

A good book for those who wants to improve good writing and speaking skills. And in my opinion a valuable resource if you are a techie and can only speak in jargon or just go blank when it comes to public speaking (well...that was the case with me)

This book's simply the very best reference there is on the subject of using plain and simple English to communicate effectively in writing.

Bailey's suggestions are so simple, straight forward and full of common sense that you find yourself thinking, "Of course I should write this way! Everybody should write like this!" The world would be a better place--and be so much more productive--if everyone followed Bailey's suggestions.

This book is probably the most complete "how to" book on SFA. The method and tips present allow the reader to truly understand the complexity of these kind of project.

Even though the processes presented is focused for "high tech B to B companies", the reader of another industry will take that as an illustration of the power of SFA.

90 pages of the book focus on products : some do not exist and most versions have been updated. If you are an SFA specialist, skip this section, otherwise, take it as an introduction to tools and modules functionalities
