Thorough public relations reference source.......1999-06-19
Because of its sheer size, the book, at first, appears to be overwhelming. However, it's clearly written and easy to move through quickly. Many PR people -- especially senior practitioners -- tend to turn up their noses at books on the subject (e.g., "I've lived it, what could I learn from a silly book..."). But, while not every page is for every practitioner, it's loaded with good information, some tactical, some theoretical. At the least, a handy reference guide regardless of experience...

Book Description
Documents, such as drawings, memos and specifications, form an essential function in the design and construction industry. Throughout the lifecycle of a built asset, starting from an initial design idea, right through to a final built form and its ongoing management, thousands, even millions of documents can be used to convey various forms of information to a range of interested parties. In many ways, therefore, the success of a design, or construction-based company, relies upon an understanding of the use of documents, as well as the technologies and techniques that are used to create them.
The Digital Document provides an extensive background to the issues and technologies surrounding this very important topic. It examines a technical subject in an insightful manner that is neither intimidating nor confusing, even to the novice computer user. By introducing the subject through a series of preliminary reviews of current practices and essential computing technologies, the reader is able to better appreciate the benefits and capabilities of a wide range of digital document types. This book explores the role of documents in a professional practice, examines the components, capabilities, viability, and use of digital documents in the design and construction industry, and identifies and explains many of the
standards in use today.
In order to facilitate a better understanding of digital document technologies, a number of essential reviews are provided including:
- the definition and purpose of a document
- how documents are typically used by design professionals
- the nature of the digital document environment
- the data types which make up digital documents
The Digital Document is an essential reference for the architect, engineer or design professional that wants to find out more about effective communication in the digital workplace.
Bruce Duyshart is an IT Project Manager with Lend Lease Corporation and specialises in the development and implementation of digital media and information management technologies on design and construction projects. He holds a Masters degree in Architecture and is also an academic associate of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. He has written numerous papers on emerging technologies in the architecture, engineering and construction industry, and has developed Internet web sites for the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and Architecture Media.

Uhh...where is the information????.......2003-07-22
I was actually hoping to find a useful book that would help me implement PDM software, or at least provide guidelines and recommendations. After reading this book, I feel like I could have written it (even though I know next to nothing about the subject).
It is so general, the subject is painted with very broad soft strokes. What about costs, implementation schedules, performance, real-world implementations, difficult release paths, conflicting requirements???
Do *not* spend the money on this book. Seriously, you will be dissapointed. It is hardly worth a fraction of the cost (pick it up used, if you must).
Not only a 'MUST READ' but a 'MUST HAVE'........2001-04-12
'The Digital Document' was first loaned to me by a friend, but as soon as I began reading it I had to own it. It is an invaluable reference tool not only for people engaged in the construction and design industries, but any document-intensive work environment, IT professionals and document authors included. I find myself constantly going back to this book for ammunition in the ongoing effort to streamline workplace processes and convert others to a more efficient way of doing business.
And not only that; 'The Digital Document' helped me to first form a comprehensive understanding of the most intrinsic new issues underlying the electronic revolution in the modern workplace. Equipped with this new understanding and the wealth of information provided by this book I cannot help but feel as if I have gained a unique advantage when I see it's premises validated on a day-to-day basis. If you don't own 'The Digital Document', chances are you're missing out.

The Career Coach Winning Strategies for Getting Ahead in Today's Job Market
ASIN: 0385495935
Release Date: 1998-12-29 |
Amazon.com
Is the chance to triple your pay worth more to you than a gold watch or a crystal paperweight? Gordon Miller, the author of this book, increased his salary by more than $100,000 in just five years. But he didn't accomplish this by staying loyal to one company. Rather, he changed jobs nearly every year. He says that you too can vastly improve your salary, earn signing bonuses, and score stock options and a flex-time schedule by following his "Big Raise" strategies.
Included in Quit Your Job Often are:
- Tips on identifying hot industries and applying your skills to positions in those industries
- Ways to build your reputation at work and market yourself within your company
- Recommended Web sites for online job searches
- Specific moves to help you make an immediate impact on the job--and make sure management notices
- Advice to help you determine when it's time to move on to another job
While the advice in Quit Your Job Often isn't for everyone's stomach, it's certainly practical in these times of low job security. It'll be inspirational to anyone who's underemployed, has been laid off, or is otherwise in need of some career coaching--or for those who want to pick out their own gold watch.
Book Description
A real world practical guide to dramatically increase your wages, as told by an average working stiff who quit four jobs in five years and tripled his pay!
The proven, step-by-step approach to strategically changing jobs and exponentially improving your salary and career.
The rules have changed. Mergers, acquisitions, downsizing, re-engineering, outsourcing, massive layoffs, and the global economy have reshaped the job market. It's no longer enough to work year after year for incremental pay raises in exchange for job security. Employers today are driven by the bottom line; by and large, company loyalty and commitment have gone the way of the dinosaurs.
To get ahead in today's world you have to manage your career like your finances, by constantly planning ahead for your next job.
Quit Your Job Often and Get Big Raises shows you how to get ahead--and dramatically increase your salary--by changing jobs frequently and leveraging your current position for something better. It shows you why you should do it, when to do it, and how to do it.
You'll discover:
How to identify the industries with strong future growth
Why the ability to market yourself is crucial--and how to do it
When you should begin looking for your next job
How to hit the ground running when you do change jobs
And much, much more!

Good for encouraging you, not big on techniques........2002-11-09
Lots of common sense stuff. However, if a refresher and "coach" would be helpful to you, then this is a solid book to read.
It really works!.......2000-02-03
"Quit Your Job..." is more than a how-to book, it's Miller's autobiography! Very easy and fast to read. I purchased the book in June 1999. Then got a NEW job in July 1999, leaving a job I'd held for nearly 6 years. Now in Feb 2000, I have ANOTHER NEW job! The first new job provided me with a 12.5% increase. This second new job is giving me a 33% increase over the previous job. When combining the increases from my two most recent jobs, I am now making 50% more than I was making at the old job I left only 7 months ago! Miller's advice works. I have watched friends change jobs frequently, and each time they gain substantial increases. Even if you do not change jobs, the book can help to give you a healthier perspective on WHY we hold down a job in the first place. My NEW MOTTO is this: "Work is a business partnership, not a lifetime marriage. I give my current employer 110% of my efforts. I am very hardworking and dedicated...while I'm there. Yet, my first loyalty is to myself and my family. I will always have one eye open for opportunities that will better my life educationally, professionally, and financially." And that really makes good sense if you think about your physical and spiritual health and well-being. Thank you, Mr. Miller!
I don't know about the "dissing," but I like this book!.......1999-10-09
What's up with John from New York? Did he read the book? I thought this was a place to give a book review? Anyway, I did read the book. I really liked the part about NOT sending a resume but instead sending a job proposal. IT WORKED. I did what the author said and I got a great new job!
Unbelievable Shill Reviews.......1999-10-01
I agree with the lady who posted a similar comment, and who was "dissed" by the next reviewer, who was obviously in the same publisher's camp as the other "reviewers". It is so very easy to distinguish the phoney reviews from the real. Amazon, please do something.
I wish I had read it years ago!.......1999-09-28
I can now see why Japan's economy went in the tank! The person from that fine country who wrote the previous review must still be stuck in the "old school", which obviously isn't working for them! I loved this little book. I only wish I had read it years ago. Instead of buying the Corporate BS I continued to buy these last few years, I could be well ahead of the game. Both my neighbor and my wife also read the book and they too loved it!

Spend the money and buy this book.......2007-10-23
This is a valuable book about $$. And it isn't just for kids. I'm actually buying one for a grown-up for the terrific advice!
The Everything Kid's Money Book.......2005-08-06
Every kid in the USA should have the opportunity to read this book.
Product Description
Here's the first comprehensive first-aid book written just for kids about what kids can do and when to get help!
Customer Reviews:
Too much for younger kids, too simple for older kids........2004-01-05
This was a pretty good book - I almost gave it 4 stars. The book has some useful info and the advice is sound (based on other 1st aid books I've read), so I don't think it would be a waste of anyone's money. The stated reading level is 9-12 but I felt it was a little too ambitious for most kids under 12 and too simple for kids over 12. I read this book to my 7 year old and most of it was over her head and had too many "steps". MY 12 year old also read it and she too thought there were too many "steps" in the instructions on what to do in an emergency. The sections in each chapter called "GET HELP!" were confusing to both kids. If you're looking for a Safety/1st Aid book for someone under 12 I would highly recommend "The Safety Book for Active Kids" (also sold by Amazon). If the reader is someone over 12 then a Red Cross First Aid Course and an adult first aid manual might be a better use of your money.
The Kids' Guide to First Aid.......2002-03-19
This book is perfect for kids and not bad for adults either. It is very clearly written and has outstanding illustrations. The health strategies and tips provided are done in the context of prevention... But things happen, accidents occur, kids get hurt. This book helps you and your children learn/know what to do in these situations. A fun, interesting, read.
You are never to young to learn!.......2002-03-09
I have 2 young children (ages 5 and 9 yrs old) myself and helping them understand what happens to their bodies when they hurt themselves is tough to do. Not to mention what to do when they are injured. Sometimes it is more "scared about the unknown" than anything. This book really helps the child research and learn how their bodies tell them when they are hurt and how to take care of the simpler injuries themselves. Plus, the format of the book draws them into learning about their bodies before an injury occurs. The illustrations are funny and help drive the points home in a kids kind of way. Great book and my daughter is already trying out the different first aid techniques in advance. Teach the child and you have taught the adult forever!

An excellent resource!.......2000-07-13
The author managed to clearly and simply explain complicated financial concepts AND keep it fun and interesting for kids -- not an easy task! Topics such as saving, investing, credit, interest, reading stock quotes, history of money, etc are covered in depth. I learned quite a few things myself -- most adult personal finance books should be this easy to understand! The book has lots of games, puzzles and activities as well as some really interesting money trivia. This is a great resource for both the classroom and home.
A great resource book--and fun, too!.......2000-06-03
This book is the best of all possible worlds--fun, factual, practical, and completely appealing to kids. It contains importantinformation on what could easily be a dull subject and presents it in interesting and clear text, accessible to kids of all ages. A really terrific book.
Where was this when I was a child?.......2000-04-27
My fourth grader is reading this book, and I borrowed it to stay ahead of him. Everything you ever wanted to know is in here-- even things you didn't know you wanted to know (like why we have piggy banks.) Tough concepts like the Federal Reserve are explained in kid-friendly language, and the book is packed with riddles and games. Great for a classroom, fun to read, fast-paced, yet thorough. Highly recommended.
