I have not had the opportunity to read this book yet. However, I did glance through to see that it did contain valuable information I will need at a later date. The book looks like good reference material I will consult often while writing grants.

I am quite impressed with the book; I feel the authors touch on and in some cases went into depth regarding all aspects of grant writing. I feel it was not intended to fully teach but to give you the understanding of the overall aspects of grant writing, (what to expect, what to look for and how to plan your approach.) It was very helpful to me as I am new to grant writing.

The "Everything Grant Book" is not very helpful to those who are serious about trying to locate and obtain grant funding. The book provides a very broad-brush approach to grant writing with limited examples.
The first seven chapters go back-and-forth between government and foundation grants, which is very confusing, especially for the beginning grant writer. Even though government and foundation grants have some common elements, they require very different approaches.
When the reader finally reaches Chapter 8 "Components of a Grant Proposal," it really discusses solicitations, with only one page dedicated to grant components.
Chapter 9 provides very basic information about preparing to writer a grant.
Chapter 10 talks about "letters of support," which seems out-of-place considering the authors have yet to discuss the major elements of a grant proposal.
Chapters 11-15 discuss the real conponents of most government grants, but once again fail to provide a comprehensive presentation with realistic examples.
Chapter 16 "Other Grant Proposal Sections" includes information (staff qualifications, management plan, etc.) that really belongs in Chapter 13 "Action Plans."
Chapter 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 include very basic information about writing, reviewing, and filling out forms, and submitting proposals.
The book ends with "Writing Grants as a Career," which seems like an awkward ending. If I had to rely on this book to give me the background to be a grant writer, I would be struggling to make a living.
I suggest potential grant writers look for a book that has only one emphasis (government or foundation), is better organized, and provides more contemporary examples.
Everything Is True and Accurate..........2006-06-19
The Everything Grant Writing Book minces no words in informing readers that two of the most important abilities in grant writing are: The ability to follow directions and the ability to meet a deadline.
I loved the authors' style and could see that it really wasn't intended to "insult" (although I wasn't insulted at all). What they convey is that you can have the best writing talent and your cause can be quite noble, but the sad fact is that most grants contain a myriad of directions that CAN be rather complex and daunting. I often have thought that these directions help them to "weed" out proposals right off! If these directions are not followed TO THE LETTER, your grant proposal usually isn't even read! Likewise, I have NEVER ever known a committee to make an exception and accept a grant proposal that is late. I would rather that the authors drive this point home in a book than for grant seekers to learn the hard way... An excellent book that I'm buying for my own personal collection.

The material is well organized, and the exercises are good, BUT: The number of errors is just unbelievable; the keys often do not even match the exercises, so you can never be sure whether this is your mistake or the editors'.

This book gives a very good base knowledge and I would personnaly recommend that everyone who is thinking about becomming a concierge to read this book before applying for a position.

I am a concierge, and I bought this book and Ultimate Service when I got my job to help me thru getting my desk started up again, as the hotel that hired me had inactivated their concierge desk. The overarching value of this book is not just the how of the job, but the anecdotes from the experienced concierges out there who contributed stories. Reading the stories will make you appreciate the job and its challenges, and the how-to qualities are definitely there. Excellent book for someone starting in a hotel or a resort, and it is not written for the corporate or startup business types. I read this book when my desk is slow just to stay sharp on the little things and get inspiration on a rough day from some of the miracles that those around this great job seem to be able to make happen.

This book covers the profession for a job not a business. I assumed this book would help you in starting a Concierge Business, but basically it should be purchased if you are thinking about becoming a Hotel Concierge for some of the Hotels that offer this kind of employment.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable and valuable collection of business humor anecdotes. I found them to be very useful on many speaking occasions. In the same business/humor category, I would like to also highly recommend the the hilarious satire: "MANAGEMENT BY VICE", as another great source of witty-sharp, humorous anecdote-like episodes and workplace wisdom --- in prose, easy-to-recall, apply and repeat brief verses and comic illustrations. The follies of mis-management in high-tech R&D were applicable to numerous business situations. Combining the wit in both these books, I found much to chuckle over and discuss with my close friends and on many diverse business social occasions!

This is a great book for the novice as well as the experienced speaker. My current assignment requires me to gather ideas for speeches and put together presentations nonstop. I use this book all the time. My boss now carries a copy of it with him every place he goes.

A great resource for understanding differences in trusts.......2004-10-19
This is one of the best books I have found on the subject of trusts. Most books on Wills only talk about Living Trusts, but this book outlines how some of the richest (and not so rich) families use Trusts to protect family money. It also discusses the downfalls of this practice, including causing legal battles for your next of kin. This guide not only explains trusts and living trusts, but also goes into details on being an executor, going through probate, handling executor fees and it discusses common problems within wills and trusts. There are many examples of legal cases throughout the book that illustrate issues and how they have been resolved by courts. It's definately worth reading if you're trying to get a grasp on the subject.

The reader will learn how to keep a will simple enough to do what is wanted, but detailed enough to satisfy a probate court; why probate is inimical to family wealth and how to avoid it; how to use living trusts to move as much as you can to family members; and when charitable trusts, special needs trusts, and other trusts can work in favor of your family. Of special value is the information on what to do if you find yourself named executor or trustee and how to instill notions of duty and humility in your heirs.
