A must read for new parents.......2005-10-29
I just finished reading this book and loved it! The concepts presented in this book really helped me figure out how to integrate the concepts of financial success with raising my child. I can't imagine a better gift to give my daughter than helping her to be financially responsible. Imagine how different the world would be if everybody read this and encouraged this behavior their children! Exactly the kind of inspiration I needed with a new child.
Highly reccomend for all parents! EXCELLENT!.......2005-10-25
Most of my family & friends fly by the seat of their pants financially with their children. This book reminds and clearly teaches strategies (at any incomne level) to raise children to be financially responsible, generous, and moral. It even touches on paying for chores, grades & when should you start allowance!!
It's a must have book! Great gift idea too. Remember the phrase "failing to plan, is planning to fail". You'll love this book!
Practical and helpful approaches to teaching healthy approaches to money and finances.......2005-08-16
Just as money issues become a source of heartache and conflict within marriages, it often becomes a wedge between parents and their children. Kids who grow up with highly charged attitudes towards money often have a hard time in managing their finances with larger goals in mind. Chaotic finances are too often a contributor to chaos and pain in personal lives, as well.
Eileen and Jon Gallo stress being an intelligent parent first. Communication, appropriate teaching, example, and trust are the basis of a sound parent-child bond. In this book, they stress teaching healthy attitudes and approaches to personal finance because too many lives get sidetracked when money is handled poorly.
Rather than providing a book of tips on building a financial empire or guiding your children into careers on Wall Street, this book is about everyday lives. It is for parents with children of any age, including adult children. And, especially, the authors stress that it is never too late to being. You will be better off starting now on improvement rather than regretting that you had not begun earlier and then letting tomorrow continue down the same painful road.
The book is built around eight sound and helpful steps:
1. Encourage a work ethic
2. Get your money stories straight
3. Facilitate financial reflection
4. Become a charitable family
5. Teach financial literacy
6. Be aware of the values you model
7. Moderate your extreme money tendencies
8. Talk about the tough topics
I especially like they way each of these principles is handled. Not only do the authors discuss each principle, they also provide help in approaches to understanding your own example and how to create teaching opportunities with your child. It is a very practical book. It also has a very supportive tone that focuses on lifting everyone involved in these exercises in improvement.
Money is a part of everyone's life and ignoring it will not make it go away but will almost certainly make circumstances worse. Bad news collects interest over time and becomes an ever larger problem that will eventually have to be solved. Better to start on the right path and keep things in a healthy mode with a positive perspective.
This book can be a real help.

Book Description
Lesikar and Flatley's, Basic Business Communication (BBC): Skills for Empowering the Internet Generation, has long been known as a solid introductory business communication book that gets to the writing skills sooner than most other texts and gives students true 'how-to' skills in all areas of business communication. It has solid examples, and is both consumer-and service-oriented. Its strength has also been its use of margin notes, cartoons and photos that relate to the concepts and use of cases. Recent editions have established BBC as truly cutting edge; it was the first text in the market with PowerPoint as part of its package, the first to have an online chapter, and with the 9th Edition is now the first to offer writing tips and templates for PDAs (personal digital assistants).).

Useless.......2007-01-23
I bought this product expecting summaries and plain english explanations of the concepts in the book it is meant to accompany, but all I got were quoted definitions of words. I believe this book is just an attempt to get customers to subscribe to the online service (which costs money), but these Cram101 cons aren't getting another penny of mine.

ASIN: 0233986359 |
Book Description
Flavours of Korea is written for both the practical cook and the armchair cook. Illustrated with Kim Millon's superb photographs and line drawings, it tells not only of the tastes but also of the sights, sounds and traditions of town and country. About 150 easy-to-follow recipes teach the home cook the secrets of a hitherto little known cuisine. There are recipes for classics such as pajon (scallion pancake), bulgogi (soy-and-sesame marinaded beef), chapchae (a delicious noodle and vegetable medley), pimbimpap (a one-dish mixture of rice and any assortment of cultivated and wild vegetables and roots), and of course kim chi in all its fiery manifestations.
Customer Reviews:
great book for beginners to korean cooking.......1999-10-31
I was given this book by one of my Korean friends after I expressed an interest in learning how to cook Korean food. The recipies are easy to follow for those not familiar with the ingredients and processes of cooking Korean. I also enjoyed the stories that the author included about his grandmother and his travels to Korea. I have recommended this book to friends who want to learn about Korean food.
Not Authentic.......1999-09-17
This book is interesting in that Marc writes about his Korean grandmother who immigrated to Hawaii and created adaptations of Korean cooking. For instance there are recipes for Korean pancakes that closely resemble the American kind that you with Aunt Jemima Syrup on them. Some of the dishes are close but they are more or less adaptations or interpretations of Korean cooking. They are not dishes the way Korean nationals would cook them. Being Korean and after eating Korean food for 35 years; I found some of the dishes unrecognizable.
The stories are interesting though and the text is well written.
Interesting cookbook but not authentic.......1999-02-27
Marc Millon writes wonderful stories about Korean and his grandmother's kitchen, but several of the recipes were not very authentic-but more or less adaptations or interpretations of authentic Korean cuisine.
Delicious recipes and wonderful stories.......1998-06-07
I really enjoyed reading this book as much as I loved trying the recipes. Every one I tried was delicious, especially the pibimbap, the kuksu and, of course, the pulgogi. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Korean cooking.
This cookbook is as easy to read as it is to cook from........1997-08-05
We have a Korean friend who visited us recently. Inspired by her cooking, I checked the local library. This was one of the books I found. This was by far the best of the library's selections. Korean cooking is much more palatable to the Occidental palate than, say, Japanese cooking. For instance, Koreans eat beef. Our friend is a master cook and so I was looking for a cookbook whose recipes were as close as possible to the way I observed our friend cooking; and this book was it. Not only are the recipes authentic and simple, made the way Yong Sun cooked for us while she was here, the commentary shares the culture in a way that makes me eager to visit Korea some day. And I finally found a kimchi recipe that I like (and can eat without losing all feeling in my tongue...)

Download Description
Few of us will regret not having spent more time at the office upon reaching heaven's gate. Yet as we focus on making a good living, we often forget to make a life. Why not transform work into a pursuit that feeds the spirit and the pocketbook, and benefits society, too? Now that would be a life worth living, a legacy to look back upon. Former professor at Harvard Business School, highly successful Fortune 500 consultant, and part owner of lucrative businesses, Mark Albion had it all--but the "it" he had wasn't what his body and soul needed to thrive. So he did the unthinkable. He gave up what he did so well and started over. Drawing on intimate interviews with a dozen fast-trackers he met on his search for happiness, Mark shares how these men and women found the courage and motivation to re-create successful professional lives guided by passion. You'll meet, among others, Judy George, who went from a crushing job termination to establishing her own home furnishings company based on the same treasured values that guide her family . . . Ira Jackson, who left his public sector job--and put his social conscience to work rebuilding a bank's reputation . . . and Tom Reis, who found the climb up the corporate ladder unfulfilling--and now works at a nonprofit organization for a cause that truly matters to him. MAKING A LIFE, MAKING A LIVING proves that you can change horses in midstream and find work you really love. Inspiring, eye-opening, and sprinkled with insightful quotes from such diverse sources as Mother Teresa, W. C. Fields, Maya Angelou, Marilyn Monroe, Warren Buffett, and Martin Luther King, Jr., this personal IN SEARCH OF EXCELLENCE for the new millennium will help you combine your ambition and passions to create a livelihood that enriches both the world and yourself.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book.......2007-05-07
I first read this book 2 years ago after going through a mid-life/career change.
The title spoke to me-Making a life, Making a living.
I didn't go to Harvard, I don't have an MBA, but I had a successful career for years and still felt something was missing. While there are alot of successful people profiled with Ivy league degrees-the core of the message about making a choice with how you live your life personally and professionally really made an impact with me.
As with any book, you extract and interpret what is meaningful for you.
I've read this book 3 times and each time I get something more from it.
I now live the life I imagined and my priorities are synced.
Mark's book will give you insight, profiles interesting people and makes you think-that's what I look for in a great book.
Making a Life or Making a Fortune?.......2006-11-01
The quotes in this book are good. Some of the stories are interesting. But as much as I wanted to really like this book because it was recommended to me by people I admire, I couldn't make it to the end. The moral and tone of the book seemed to be that the ultimate purpose is making lots of money. The examples of people giving up six-digit salary careers and fancy lifestyles for a higher purpose eventually wound their way back to those same people earning heaps in a different business. Maybe I didn't read far enough, but I didn't see any stories of people who gave up the high life, worked for a cause they loved, never made another dime and were still happy.
the elitist BULLCrap novel, don't believe what you read...........2006-07-17
I worked for a name/ego that was highlited in this book.
All about ego, financial and political gains. Any resemblence of true atruism is very far from the REAL truth. This book feeds on the thirst for liberal ideals. Maybe the next planet but surely not this one.
Not enough...........2004-12-21
I was a subscriber on Albion's e-mail list some years ago. I bought this book expecting more depth than what the list had. I was looking for a book that would really show how people make hard choices and focus their lives in alternative paths.
I was disappointed and actually could not even finish the book.
It lacked depth. Albion could have probed its subjects, could have tried to question them. Instead, he chose to almost worships them.
Life is full of difficult choices. I personally have looked for books that open my eyes to new ways of looking at things, for in that I may find "my truth". This book tries to sell us "one truth" almost as a one-size-fits-all solution. I don't buy that.
For a book of this type, with life-stories examples, I suggest Po Bronson's "What should I do with my life". I think is more authentic and more dettached in its analyses.
Condescending Dribble.......2004-09-20
I found this book to be very condescending in the way that it was written. I listened to the audio cassettes and stopped listening after the first cassette because I felt like I was being talked down to because I had not given up everything in life to go live in a eskimo community or in Africa figthing AIDS in some tribe that lives in the Nigeria.
I completely agree that the path to true happiness is not merely achieving success through becoming rich and famous, but I found it very interesting the examples that he chose for his success stories. For example, in his story of Judy and her business the "White Dog", he portrayed her as being so happy and having achieved such great success through her activism with regards to social issues, but just passed over the fact that she had two unsuccessful marriages and could keep her personal relationships successful.
I feel that the sense of the book is that you have to be involved in these major earth saving causes to find true happiness and I don't agree with that. I believe that you can find true happiness within the walls of your own home just as easily. I also believe that through small and simple things like being kind to others and volunteering in your community that great things are brought about.
I am glad the the author was able to come to some conclusions about how to find happiness in his own life but I felt that the book was very preachy in its approach.
If this book touched others' lives for the better, I think that the author was successful, but it didn't touch mine. In fact, it got on my nerves so much that I had to quit listening to it and felt the desire to write a review to let others know of the condescending airs that it portrays.
