Dr. Richard McCall, a psychologist who teaches martial arts principles to professionals, turns his attention exclusively to the fiscal battlefield in The Way of the Warrior-Trader: The Financial Risk- Taker's Guide to Samurai Courage, Confidence and Discipline. Likening today's high-performance traders to Japan's legendary samurai, he combines personal anecdotes with success stories to show why the mind is the most important weapon in both arsenals--and how it can best be used in battle.
Book Description
Trading is war, an ongoing battle against other traders to get to profitable positions first, seize profits and move on to the next battle. The Way of the Warrior Trader applies time-honored precepts of the samurai discipline to modern trading, showing the reader ways to use centuries-old methods for victory in today's trading markets. The Way of the Warrior Trader: Provides a six step action plan for trading; Explains how to recover psychologically from a loss; Describes how to overcome the deep-seated psychological barriers to effective trading.
Customer Reviews:
Waste of money and time.......2007-09-18
Dont get trapped by the title. Its total waste of time and money.I agree with the ideas which author was trying to convey which i interpreted based on my own trading experience.Unfortunately very poor in presenting his ideas.May be author should stick to martial art which he is good at and leave the trading warriors to decide and do what is good for them.
Review of the Way of the Warrior Trader.......2007-03-09
This is a good book. Its a little out there, but if you keep an open mind, it can open up many new possibilities for you. It is easy to read and his stories are quite entertaining and poignant. If you are one on the lucky people to purchase this, you are in for quite a treat.
It's about the way you think.......2007-01-27
Dr. McCall's book is about developing a warrior mindset. The Way of the Warrior Trader is mostly written for "professional risk takers". However, you don't have to be trading options or stocks to gain from this book.
Warrior trader or warrior homemaker, it doesn't matter. The main takeaway from this book that you can develop the courage, confidence and discipline to master any area of your life or goals that you may have set.
Also, to answer one of the harsh critics below--Dr. McCall does not try to dupe anyone or take their money with nefarious intent.
I attended a several day workshop that Dr. McCall gave on Warrior Trading. We simulated trading and quick decision making at the craps tables in Tunica, Mississippi. My wife and I gained much insight into our personalities and money styles. When the workshop was completed I had not spent a dime on food and lodging. Dr. McCall did not ask for any money from us or hit us up for any additional money for ongoing training.
Straight up guy and straight up advice in the book.
I Live by the precepts within this book.......2006-09-26
These lessons, presented by Dr McCall, in his perennial best seller The "Way of the Warrior Trader" have been marketed to, widely accepted and utilized successfully by market players trading a wide variety of financial instruments. Also by championship level marshal artists, casino gamblers as well as poker players like me. Simply stated these ancient Marshall lessons hold the keys to unlocking the untold potential held within us all and will guide us toward developing, will power, a fighting spirit that is designed to win, and a unbelievably strong yet calm inner being.
This spirit, known as "Heijoshin kore michi" or "a calm every day spirit" is one every successful player knows he must attain to win consistently in any arena of financial risk taking. One who has attained such a spirit is briefly described as such. "Even if he looks to death in the eye, he must remain the same and act directly: confidently, calmly and imperturbably outward, wide awake and attentively inward."
Following these lessons and doing the exercises therein will increase your ability to choose and correctly use the skills you have already developed with confidence and clarity. It will also be helpful in increasing your ability to use these skills optimally. Especially while dealing with contingencies and the stress that results as they come into play ... These lessons and exercises will also drastically reduce the learning curve normally associated with developing new skills.
In as much this program will work for any task whether it is transitioning from poker proficiency to greatness or trading profitably and constantly in the markets. In fact it will work for any challenging endeavor whatsoever. It does so through a method for defining, maintaining and focusing clearly on the goals and sub goals that exist on your road to success.
If you find yourself switching from failed system to failing system isnt it about time you quit working to find a new system and start working on finding a new real core that lies at the heart of every trading system, That is the individual executing it?
This Book directs you on how to start doing exactly that.
Beware of superbookdeals seller.......2006-06-19
If you want to buy the book, go ahead, just be careful of superbookdeals, they take your money but don't deliver and don't answer emails. Caveat Emptor.

Customer Reviews:
Student review.......2006-10-19
My writing has improved 200% because of the information presented in this book. I am a junior marketing major at Northern Illinois University. This text is enjoyable to read with great visuals and equally interesting real- world examples. I will definitely keep this book. The skills learned from this book will guide me in my career for years to come. Thank you for writing this book and to my professor for choosing this book.
BUSINESS WRITING INSTRUCTION TAKES QUANTUM LEAP!.......2004-10-01
As a college business communication instructor and corporate writing consultant of 20+ years, I feel my career is about to take a quantum leap forward with my discovery of this magnificent compendium of materials. Mary Ellen Guffey has done ALL the hard work! Juicy, readable text: done. Riveting "inside" information on cool corporations: done. Web-based support? Manuals? PowerPoints? Videos? Done. Fresh writing prompts, some packaged with the research already done? Done. With my old text, I've been drowning in an attempt to supplement and update and enrich the dated material enough to keep it relevant and arresting. Now I'm finding that I have plenty of time to interact with students over their own writing and presentations. I've always felt one-on-one and small-group interaction to be a huge part of my mission as a classroom teacher. Thanks to Mary Ellen Guffey, I'm able to do more of it, while spending less time overall on take-home work. Thank you, Mary Ellen, from the trenches--not just for a marvelous tool, but for a whole toolbox full of them.
Perfect for the Classroom!.......2004-09-27
I am an instructor at a business college, and this textbook (along with the accompanying website for students) proved to be wonderful for use in the classroom. The chapters were lively (even for a four-hour lecture class!) and provided real-world details and examples. The website accompanying the textbook has plenty of extra information for classroom use, as well as activities that students can do to review chapters and test their grammar skills.
A Great Book for College Students.......2004-09-23
Business Communication: Process and Product has been the best textbook I have worked with. Everything is presented in a clear and reader-friendly manner. Of all the books I have had to purchase for my courses, this was well worth the investment. Even though I recently earned my degree, and am no longer taking classes, I am still benefiting from owning this book.
BC:PP is an instructor's dream!.......2004-09-22
I teach an entry level MBA class that focuses on Leadership and Communication. Previously, the text for this class was average to poor. I dreaded using it. Starting this semester, we're using Mary Ellen Guffey's Business Communication: Process and Product text. It's a dream! It's a joy as an instructor to have an academic text such as BC:PP that is (a) very applicable to real-world business situations, (b) easy and fun to read, and (c) filled with tons of great ideas for class and homework assignments. In addition, instructors can request support materials such as video, PowerPoint chapter reviews, chapter tests, etc. that save a TON of time and effort! I am truly enjoying using this book, as are my students. I'd HIGHLY recommend it for any undergrad or graduate level communication course!

Book Description
Tourism has been identified as one of the few potential growth sectors in the mature economies. This volume provides a detailed study of the industry and of its contribution to economic development in Europe. This diverse region offers a wide range of examples of the potential and limitations of tourism as a vehicle for development, and of government policies for tourism. This, the third edition of the title includes a new country case study chapter on the Republic of Ireland. Together with the general review chapters and the existing ten country case studies the book provides a comprehensive and up-to-date survey of tourism in Western Europe. A new chapter on Central and Eastern Europe broadens the reach of the book. The cases studies are modelled on similar formats and cover recent changes in domestic and foreign tourism, seasonal and regional concentration, the national and regional economic implications of tourism development, and tourism policies. All the authors are specialists on the tourism industries of the particular countries. They have access to the most recent data available on each case study, and place the study of tourism in the broader context of national developments. Contents

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Transportation Research Part B, published by Elsevier in 2006. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
The paper describes a low-pass adaptive filtering algorithm for predicting average roadway travel times using automatic vehicle identification (AVI) data. The algorithm is unique in three aspects. First, it is designed to handle both stable (constant mean) and unstable (varying mean) traffic conditions. Second, the algorithm can be successfully applied for low levels of market penetration (less than 1%). Third, the algorithm works for both freeway and signalized arterial roadways. The proposed algorithm utilizes a robust data-filtering procedure that identifies valid data within a dynamically varying validity window. The size of the validity window varies as a function of the number of observations within the current sampling interval, the number of observations in the previous intervals, and the number of consecutive observations outside the validity window. Applications of the algorithm to two AVI datasets from San Antonio, one from a freeway link and the other from an arterial link, demonstrate the ability of the proposed algorithm to efficiently track typical variations in average link travel times while suppressing high frequency noise signals.

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Transportation Research Part C, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This paper proposes a methodology for deploying permanent Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in a vehicular traffic network. Of particular interest is the planning problem to optimize the number of DMS to deploy in conjunction with Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), operating and maintenance cost of DMS, and incident-related user cost under random traffic incident situations. The optimal DMS location design problem discussed herein is formulated as a two-stage stochastic program with recourse (SPR). A Tabu search algorithm combined with dynamic traffic simulation and assignment approaches are employed to solve this problem. A case study performed on the Fort-Worth, Texas network highlights the effectiveness of the proposed framework and illustrates the affect factors such as demand, network structure, DMS response rate, and incident characteristics have on the solution. The numerical results suggest that designing and deploying DMS and ATIS jointly is more cost-effective and efficient than the sequential build-out of the two from the system management perspective.

Modeling user adoption of advanced traveler information systems: a control theoretic approach for optimal endogenous growth [An article from: Transportation Research Part C]

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from Transportation Research Part C, published by Elsevier in 2004. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This study is a subsequent development of the dynamic evolution model of the market penetration of advanced traveler information systems (ATIS) proposed by Yang and Meng [Transport. Res. A 35 (2001) 895]. In previous study we have shown that a benefit-driven, user-optimal ATIS market does not necessarily lead to a socially optimal growth and optimal stationary equilibrium level of market penetration of ATIS products or services. The current study proposes an optimal time-dependent service pricing strategy so as to minimize total system cost throughout the time horizon of growth or optimally reach a socially desirable target level of ATIS market penetration in a final stationary equilibrium. We formulate the problem of interest as an optimal control problem and propose an efficient solution algorithm together with a numerical demonstration of the characteristics of the study problem.

A multiclass, multicriteria logit-based traffic equilibrium assignment model under ATIS [An article from: European Journal of Operational Research]

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from European Journal of Operational Research, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This paper presents a multiclass, multicriteria (cost versus time) logit-based traffic equilibrium assignment model in road networks served by advanced traveler information systems (ATIS). All users are differentiated by their own value of time (VOT) that follows some probability distribution. Users of each class, having their own VOT, are further divided into two groups, equipped and unequipped with ATIS respectively. The travel disutility received by each user is defined as a linear bi-criteria combination of travel time and monetary travel cost. It is assumed that all users make their route choices in a logit-based stochastic manner, but the equipped users have lower perception variation on the travel disutility than the unequipped due to the ATIS service. The model is formulated as a fixed-point problem and solved by the method of successive averages in conjunction with logit assignment. Numerical results show that the traditional single-class and/or single-criterion models may overestimate or underestimate the benefit from ATIS services.
