4 out of 5 stars Great book - very intense.......2007-08-27

I've been looking for a book like this for a while. I first came across Bill Williams through the Metastock indicators and the Expert System. After loading an expert called "PS Fractal Trading System 2" I was amazed at the signals.
Having read through the book - I have the following quibble. There is a huge difference in the parameters of the alligator in what comes with Metastock (v9 and v10) and what the book gives. The book says the green line is 13 bar smoothed average offset 8 bars into future. Likewise the red is 8 bar offset 5, and the green is 5 bar offset 3. However this does not correspond to the Metastock indicator he provides. For the curious, the Metastock ones referred to in page 206 of book have the following values: Green: 9 period EMA of Median offset 3. Red: 15 period offset 5, and Blue 25 period offset 8

5 out of 5 stars It is the right book at the right time.......2007-07-06

This book has methods to get buy signals before the lows and sell signals before the highs. This will help one sell into strength and buy into weakness. It has helped me get my positions off. I have recommended this book to all of my trading friends. It will take careful study to fully understand it. This book is original, all mechanical and all objective. The three wise men make up very powerful trading tools.

4 out of 5 stars Good book.......2007-01-09

Another great book from Bill Williams!
Interesting for trend trading and for good living.

5 out of 5 stars Bill Williams is the REAL DEAL.......2006-12-18

I am a BIG believer in Bill Williams and his body of work.

I have personally met with Bill, taken his home study course and even attended a private tutorial. Bill is the real deal. He is a *highly* profitable trader and Bill trades EXACTLY like he describes in his books (simplified over time, so Trading Chaos, 2nd Ed. is the LATEST and most refined method).

If you just want to trade with no other background information, Buy Trading Chaos, 2nd Edition (not this book) and start with chapter seven. When you get to the end of the book, you'll say, "That's it?!?! Than can't be it!" That's what I said. I then went on to take his home study course (13 weeks) and then went to a private tutorial. 95% of the methodology is IN THE BOOK! The more advanced stuff is for those who are scaling into positions and want more aggressive money management techniques.

Who am I to say this works? I started trading Bill's techniques from scratch. In LESS than 6 months I was up 95% in a medium sized account. I found some like-minded investors and we started our own Hedge Fund (more specifically, a commodity pool). I called Bill personally and he spoke with me at length about how I should flow into and out of my positions, etc. He went far above and beyond the call of duty. I cannot speak to how well my Pool is doing (not legal to disclose - considered solicitation of investors), so I cannot give figures of returns for the Pool.

Buy Trading Chaos 2nd Edition and then buy "New Trading Dim mentions" (his second book) and read chapters 9 - 11. Those chapters will give you more ideas of the SCOPE of just what is possible when you simplify your trading and align it with natural market tendencies (chaos principles).

Good luck and Good Trading!

5 out of 5 stars The truth about how to become a successful trader.......2006-09-01

I purchased this book because I was trading with a method that used the awesome oscillator. I figured I should know something about the person who created it. I got much more than that. The book helped me to quit focusing on trading techniques and to start looking at my own mental state for trading. Turning inward has allowed me build better confidence in myself and my method. That in turn allows me to trade with a mindset which successful traders have. The fact that the book also presents a very viable trading method is just an added bonus. This book and "Trading In The Zone" by Mark Douglas transformed my trading career.

5 out of 5 stars Short narritive that teaching the basics of communication........1997-11-20

The book reads like a short story chronicling a few weeks in the life on Gloria and her family. Gloria's life as a manager, wife, and mother is falling apart and a mysterious teacher helps her learn the basics of clear communication.

The insights provided by the author are presented with real life examples and situations that make them easy to grasp and retain. The format of the book reminds me of the various "One Minute Manager" books by various authors.

Highly recommended.

Book Description

How consciousness can cure the socioeconomic ills of society and restore hope in the workplace and at home.

• A book for every  individual who has ever dreamed of running a successful business without having to sacrifice personal integrity.

• Offers a blueprint for recovering our psychological, sexual, and political health.

With welcome candor and insight, The Invisible Player brings into focus why, despite tremendous financial success and technological advancement, people today remain unfulfilled, discouraged, and sick at heart from living in a world that has replaced compassion with violence and greed. Every professional man and woman who has ever dreamed of running a successful business without having to sacrifice personal integrity in the process will be inspired by Mario Kamenetskyis vision.

The Invisible Player guides us through the development of human consciousness--specifically how and why our socioeconomic consciousness has been shaped toward the pursuit of power and wealth rather than the enjoyment of life and love. Through examples of alternate socioeconomic systems, Kamenetsky offers us a blueprint of how we may reclaim our psychological, sexual, and political health to create a more joyful future in which we can succeed in combining our current technical and financial rationality with a more highly developed compassion for humanity.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Plausible and Hopeful Vision.......2003-08-29

Stimulating reading about humankind's future. Kamenetzky, former Science and Technology Specialist for the World Bank, has ample experience to speak authoritatively about our global economy. As a scholar and poet he also has the inspiration of a hopeful visionary who can't help but notice that the human powers of conscious awareness, attention and compassion are still spreading and advancing.

"The Invisible Player" traces the historical development of human consciousness, parallels it with 7000 years of modern human social and economic development, and shows how these, in turn, have structured today's world, ultimately affecting how children grow and develop (enculturation). He sees two basic forces vying for human attention and investment since neolithic times - amour de soi (love mastering traditions: art and science) and amour propre (power controlling organizations: institutional theism and the nation state). From these he lays bare three fundamentalisms that interlock and reinforce each other to create our modern "rational" world view: scientific fundamentalism, religious fundamentalism and nationalism.

Thoughtful readers will find Kamenetzky's concept maps fascinating: "What We Need and What We Recieve", "Programming People for Violent Behavior", "How Men Percieve Women Under the Power Paradigm", "The Economy of Sexuality Pervades All Other Economies". Our separation from Nature and our own bodies has a history and is achieved economically.

Kamenetzky has the scientific chops and economic experience to explore hopeful new bio-social territory credibly. He sees a new, emerging phase of human economic organization based on a "integrative-harmonic" consciousness. His book cites ongoing experiments and historical examples from around the world that demonstrate alternative ways to organize human needs and efforts, and he speaks level-headedly about adusting to nature's capacity so we can integrate and harmonize mind, society and nature. Highly reccommended and amazingly overlooked in the four years since its release. I hope he'll be encouraged to follow this up. Absorb these ideas and see what you think! Then compare them to Jane Jacob's two moral syndromes in "Systems of Survival".

    Book Description

The Television Handbook is a critical introduction to the practice and theory of television. Jonathan Bignell and Jeremy Orlebar discuss the state of television today, explain how television is made, and how production is organized, and discuss how critical thinking about programmes and genres can illuminate their meanings. This book also explores how developments in technology and the changing structure of the television industry will lead the medium in new directions.
The Television Hand book gives practical advise on many aspects of program making, from an initial program idea through to shooting and the post-production process. The book includes profiles giving insight into how personnel in the television industry from recent graduates to television executives think about their work.
The television Handbook bridges the gap between theory and practice. There are chapters on the vigorous debates about what is meant by "quality" television, how news and factual programmes are changing as new technologies and formats such as Reality TV have risen in prominence, and how drama, sport and music television can be understood.

5 out of 5 stars A primer to familiarize oneself with money matter basics.......2005-01-09

Building And Preserving Your Wealth: A Practical Guide To Financial Planning For Affluent Investors by certified financial planner Steven Podnos addresses personal finance issues specific to the middle class or well-to-do investor. Chapters address planning for taxes, retirement, education, life insurance, health and disability, and more, as well as how to work well with advisors and asset protections, achieve goals efficiently and much more. Written in plain terms, Building and Preserving Your Wealth spells out the advantages and disadvantages of financial choices available today, and is especially recommended as a primer to familiarize oneself with money matter basics before visiting a professional who charges costly hourly fees for his or her time.

5 out of 5 stars Even more than you wanted to know!.......2004-12-08

We've all used the expression "everything you ever wanted to know, but were afraid to ask." This information-packed book goes even further.

The author is an MD who specialized in respiratory medicine. He invested successfully over two decades, learning more and more about how to build and manage wealth. Over time, we might say he converted his hobby into a new profession, earning an MBA and earning the well-respected Certified Financial Planning designation.

Employing what might be described as an effective "bedside manner," Dr. Podnos explains a wide range of investment and tax strategies in terms that make sense even to the uninitiated. And, since the book is directed toward people who already have knowledge (subtitle: A Practical Guide to Financial Planning for Affluent Investors), it could be construed to be even more understandable. I approached this book as having minimal knowledge of financial planning and was able to comprehend and appreciate the teachings.

Readers will gain a clear message that each individual will benefit most from a tailored plan, one that meets specific needs and circumstances. With the complexity of available alternatives, the most wise strategy is to engage a professional financial planner who works for you-rather than earning compensation from the sale of securities, insurance, or other instruments. The author even tells you, in his numerous resource listings (at the end of each chapter) how to find Certified Financial Planners. The book will educate you enough to know what questions to ask...at least to start.

You'll learn about investing, retirement planning, education planning, risk management and asset protection, health and disability planning, life insurance and annuities, charitable planning, estate planning, tax planning, and working with advisors. As you can see, this book is certainly comprehensive. It's a thought-provoking guidebook that has value for investors--and potential investors--at all levels.

5 out of 5 stars Finally...a financial book that dares to tell the truth!.......2004-10-14

This book was easy to read and extremely informative. It's the first book that I've come across that doesn't tell you "how to get rich" but focuses on how to keep and grow the money that you already have. It's also the first time that I've seen a book explain why you can't trust your financial advisors if they are making their money by selling you financial products. This is Wall Street's dirty little secret! The book covered all the important topics that people with money need to know ....it's a totally comprehensive financial reference guide. It's also very practical, and I've already implemented some of the author's suggestions which I'm sure will help me to sleep better at night. I wish I'd read it years ago!

              Book Description

After a self-assured John F. Kennedy bested a visibly shaky Richard Nixon in their famous 1960 debates, political television, it was said, would henceforth determine elections. Today, many claim the Internet will be the latest medium to revolutionize electoral politics. Candidates invest heavily in web and email campaigns to reach prospective voters, as well as to communicate with journalists, potential donors, and political activists. Do these efforts influence voters, expand democracy, increase the coverage of political issues, or mobilize a shrinking and apathetic electorate? Campaigning Online answers these questions by looking at how candidates present themselves online and how voters respond to their efforts-including whether voters learn from candidates' websites and whether voters' views are affected by what they see. Although the Internet will not lead to a revolution in democracy, it will, Bimber and Davis argue, have consequences: reinforcing messages, mobilizing activists, and strengthening partisans' views. Reporting on a wealth of new data drawn from national and state-wide surveys, laboratory experiments, interviews with campaign staff, and analysis of web sites themselves, Campaigning Online draws the most complete picture of the role of campaign websites in American elections to date.

              Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars praise for CAMPAIGNING ONLINE.......2003-09-18

"A fascinating book on the ever-increasing role of the online campaign. Bimber and Davis provide valuable insights for students of the 2000 election cycle."
              --Senator Harry Reid, Nevada

"This remarkable book resolves the debate about the nature of the Internet's role in election campaigns. Davis and Bimber's evidence is impeccable, and their analysis is faultless. Campaigning Online belongs on the bookshelves of election analysts and practitioners and on the required reading lists of courses on the media and campaigns."
--Thomas E. Patterson, Bradlee Professor of Government & the Press, Harvard University

"This empirically grounded and theoretically sophisticated analysis of the web-based American political campaign of 2000 avoids the anecdotal and typically breathless speculation about how the net will change human political behavior. Instead, this path breaking study documents how the web is becoming an integral part of the campaign process."
--W. Russell Neuman, Evans Professor of Media Technology, University of Michigan

"A much-needed, richly-textured empirical investigation of a key feature of online campaigning - candidate Web sites. Bimber and Davis provide a host of insights into how candidates are incorporating the Internet into their campaigns and what impact this is having on voters."
--Thomas E. Mann, W. Averell Harriman Chair and Senior Fellow, The Brookings Institution

                Book Description

Although the full extent of the potential damages from global warming remain unknown, scientists have long argued that action should be taken now to mitigate any possible adverse consequences. However, in making such policy recommendations, economic arguments need to be considered as much as scientific ones. This volume examines the appropriate economic incentives for implementing policy to mitigate climate change and then exposes the flaws in current international agreements.

The book begins by providing the economic foundations for understanding climate change. It examines how Kyoto's flexibility mechanism departs from more efficient and less-costly approaches for reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide, and highlights the problems that terrestrial carbon credits pose for emissions trading. Unique case studies of Canada, Japan and The Netherlands indicate that most countries will be unable to meet their own Kyoto obligations. The author then uses an economic analysis of the potential damages to show that even though some countries will experience a detrimental effect from climate change, the majority will actually benefit. In this way, he clearly demonstrates that not only will current policies do little to avert global warming, most countries will also have less incentive to sign up to any future international agreements.

Academics, economists and policymakers involved in the climate change debate will find this succinct yet comprehensive analysis of the economic instruments available for mitigating climate change to be essential reading.
